OT - Ruptured Achilles Tendon - anybody ever had

one or know anything about the recovery time?

Ruptured mine 2 weeks ago playing baseball, just got an MRI and go to the ortho at the end of the week.

They offer 2 fixes, both work the same basically, 1 surgically and 1 naturally, does anybody have any thoughts, experiences, stories that would help in the decision process?

Thanks in advance!

  • I remembered when Dominique Wilkins ruptured his ... gruesome. I'd go with the surgery.

Get the surgery....its quick and simple. All they do is pull your tendon down and staple it to the back of your heel. Yeah, sounds painful but I believe you are probably at higher risk of having it happen again. That tendon is like a rubber band...Ive seen them snapped up the calf on a full tear. Ive never had it happen to me but ouch, that must have hurt! Good luck!

Get the best surgury you can.

Not exactly the same, but a bad injury too...... I had a ruptured patellar tendon that basically ended my career just when it was starting (4th rd. Jan 85 Expos).
Players in the dugout heard the pop and I was at the warning track 420 feet way.

I spend first 6 months in rehab stretching the repaired tendon so I could bend my leg. It was about 1 year before I could run again with a slight limp, and even then not full blast for another 6 months more, and the knee has never been the same since.

I ruptured my ACL, MCL, and PCL, as well as tearing off my knee cap in high school football. I had to learn to walk again and it took several years of intense training for me to overcome the strength difference in my legs.
