why do you think all baseball favorites are starting slow?

this begining to the MLB season is starting off wierd in my opinion. I know its early, only about 10 games in but why are the favorites all starting so slow, Yankees, Redsox, indians, dodgers, mets phillies, angels, cubs ,braves & tigers. Every division is being lead by a team that was not predicted to be there , orioles, whitesox, a's, marlins, cards & D-backs. whats going on ?
640K ought to be enough for anyone.

Well, the Dodgers are 0-3 against the Diamondbacks and 5-3 against the other teams they have played (with 2 of those losses coming at the hands of Jake Peavy). IMO Arizona was seriously underrated during the offseason - Justin Upton's bat is more than making up for the fact he deserves the nickname Clank in the field, Mark Reynolds is turning into a star, and Dan Haren was a nice offseason pickup. Being 5-6 after 11 intradivisional games is a little early to make any predictions.

  • Like NickM said, the Dbacks are underrated. Have been for at least two years in my opinion.

Baseball is USUALLY like this - where a handful of "thought they were gonna be good" teams start out slow.

The ONLY one that is a big surprise for me is the Tigers. They're not just losing, they're looking REALLY bad doing it. Anyone else see Cabrera today at 3B? Falling all over the umpire. Gavin Floyd nearly no-hitting them...getting beat 11-0 today. I guess one can just chalk it up to all of those new guys playing for a new team, in a new stadium, and in a new league for most of them. Who knows, though. I think they'll be close to leading the AL Central by the time the All-Star game rolls along...unless the White Sox continue what they're doing.

yeah, the Tigers are definitely the clowns of the league so far. with each passing game it just gets so frustrating to the point that it's comical. Sunday's game was certainly the topper. that was easily the worst performance by a team i have ever seen......since their '06WS embarrassment. 12K's, gave up 2 grand slams, a pop-up blows back into fair ground after Cabrera (already hurt) dumps over the umpire.....it goes on and on- and this after nearly being no-hit the night before. Tigers have one of the best offensive forces ever assembled and are barely batting a collective .200. Polanco, after having 0 errors all season last year and batting .341, already has 2 errors and is hitting .150..... could go on and on but won't. i record the games when i can't watch them and i think i might save this last one as a document of how bad a team can just crumble.
