I wish there was a baseball skills competition

I think for all star weekend, they should have a MLB skills competition. The homerun derby is dated now and doesnt mean squat anymore.

Some possible events-

Best outfield throwing arm- From outfiled wall to home plate

1st to third base speed- You get a lead off of first and se who can go from 1st to home or 1st to 3rd fastest

Fastest basestealer- Time trial of stealing a base with a lead.

Baseball hittig distance- Set up a pitching machine and give players however many swings to try to beat a set mark, or the current high distance.

I think this would be way better than a homerun derby. It gives more players a chance to get some national spotlight and you know there would be some major surprises.

Your suggestions for a live audience might be interesting, but for a TV audience, I'm afraid not.

I've never understood what the big thrill is in seeing baseball players hitting easy softball type pitches for big home runs.

I guess the viewers just like seeing a lot of balls travel far. Something so easy to do for them - big yawn.

Sounds like a fun idea but with these guys wanting the big bucks I doubt they would ever risk injury for something like this.
