Help with grade and price.....

These are the sellers photos and not very good. They are in 2X2's so that makes it even more difficult.

Any advice on grade and value?

Sorry, Wayne, I wish I could be of some value, but unfortunately I can't tell much from the very poor scans. The coin might be really nice, but it could also be hiding lots of things, such as cleaning or hairlines. Is there no way to get at least better scans?

    The pictures are quite blurry.

The first one (1887 Half Crown) looks like it could be in the VF+ to EF range (British standard) £20-£25,
but I can't tell if theres a scratch next to the V in Victoria.

The second one (1887 Crown) looks to be VF to VF+ range so it would have been worth £22-£35 BUT it has been mounted and worn as a broach.
You can see the remnants of this on the right of the horses hooves and the left of the tail so this will seriously affect its value.

A bit of a gamble if you bid on them though as the blurred photos could be hiding scratches or scuffs.

  • Thanks folks......tey are going to go for a little over 30 dollar each I think.

I have bought from the seller before and the coins were a lot better than his scans

They both look to me as XF to AU but the CROWN having marks of brooch mount being removed makes it a damaged coin.

i'll concur with the others, and it is a shame to have these beautiful Crowns damaged, as many were. However, I can certainly see how Victorian women loved to show them off, it is a beautiful design (and a naked man on a horse, i'll bet that shocked the other aristocratic dames!)

I was recently searching for a nice 1844 Crown, with original surfaces and undamaged. I just needed a filler, and wasn't willing to pay for a MS one; i was thinking maybe strong XF or AU. I found this on British ebay, and loved the reverse........

but then i clicked on the obverse................

I would pass on these... and my reason is due to the contrast in the image and the coins look as if they have been lightly polished. I hope that I am wrong, but when it comes to the images of coins I rarely gamble. These dates are very common and there are very nice examples to be had if you are patient.
