A few finds from March

Hello all. It's been awhile since I've posted. Been busy with work and when I get a chance to detect, I try to get out. I've stopped by and read some of the posts on occasion, but for one reason or another, I had to go without responding to some of the great post that have been made.

Here are a few pics of some of my better finds for March. Not a whole lot to speak of, but I did find three more silver coins, the best being a 1941S Merc. I also found a couple more silver rings (one of them is bent, I need to find a way to straighten it out) and just a couple of cool finds.

Thanks for looking.

A group shot of my better finds--two silver rings at the top, an Oklahoma Tax Token from the 40's-50's, a zincoln with a cut out of a Cross (found this one in a school yard right next to a church), a button, some kind of key and a Star button (Not to old by my guess), followed by the silver coins (very blurry--time for a new camera)

Here's a close up of the rings.

  • Cool ! Looks like you are really finding alot of rings. The Merc is a sweet find too. Can't wait to find my first one. I was looking on e-bay for a way to fix that one ring I found last month and I came across this.

    Here's the link.

You might be able to make something for cheaper but I thought it might interest you.

Nice finds! I knew that was a handcuff key but, didn't dare to say so because I just knew that one of you gentlemen (using the term loosely lol) would ask "So Mary, tell us how you know that's a cuff key??" image

  • Is that a Washington State tax Token with the hole?

  • Thanks all. The tax token is from OK. This is the second one I found in the last month and a half or so of detecting. Both of them are beat up pretty good. So that's a handcuff key--nice to know image

I have found a BUNCH of rings this year. I don't know without going back and actually counting them, but I would say I have found close to 20-23 rings so far. Some of them have been junk, one gold plated ring and approximately 14 or 15 silver rings. Like I said, I don't know for sure, but I've found a few so far. One park in particular has given up close to 13 or 14 of those rings.

I love finding the Merc's. What a beautiful coin.

I'm not sure what the button is on the right. It has a star on it with some background lines--I don't think it's all that old, however the back is rusted away. It's been in the ground for some time anyway.

Intocoins--thanks for the link. I need to get a mandrel so I can straighten out the bent up rings I have.

    Thanks again,

    Scott

    Nice finds Speer.

That's interesting that you have unearthed so many rings. You must dig a lot of signals? I know that the vast majority of the silver rings that I have found have rang up as "coin" on the detector, but the gold and junk rings usually come through as pulltabs. I suspect that I have let many gold rings slip away as I get fed up digging the tabs in the trashier areas. An interesting observation: My Mercury dime recoveries probably outnumber my silver Roosie finds 4 to 1. Do other people find this to be the case I wonder?

  • Crispy--I tend to hunt in the Jewelry mode with the GTI 2500. When I get to the trashier areas, I'll go to coin mode and even then I'll knock out the 5c and pulltab slots. That one park has probably 10,000 or more broken Christmas lights that ring in at 5c/pulltab. After I dug about 200 or 300 of these, I decided that I had dug enough of them. I know that I have walked over a lot (and unfortunately left them in the ground) of good finds--possibly even gold rings. When you swing the detector and it does nothing but chirp throughout the swing from one side to the other with broken lights underneath, it'll drive you crazy. Even with the small sniper coil I recently got, I still get the same results. I'm still getting used to it so hopefully one of these days I'll be able to pull some gold out from all the trash.

    Dubba,

Thank you sir--HH to you and everyone else as well!!!
