This is what I found re: Switzerland's National Exhibitions: "Switzerland has ever held universal exposure, but has set up five national exhibitions in 1883, 1896, 1914, 1939 and 1964, not including the next scheduled for 2002. These major events, if they are smaller than their big sisters, though they may not have the character of a confrontation between countries exhibitors have yet comparable ambitions: to propose showcase for the products of industry and arts, extolling progress and the entry of Switzerland in modernity with the help of a festive setting and the support of state institutions. They are hymns to industry and the development of nature. The Zurich in 1883 coincided with, and celebrates the creation of the Gotthard railway, which connects now German-speaking Switzerland Ticino, the North to the South of Europe. The next exhibition, in Geneva in 1896, is placed under the sign of the "magic of electricity", a bit like the trailer for the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1889."
So it is the medal for the 1896 National Exhibition in Geneva, Switzerland. Hope this helps, Jim
Hi jimK, thanks for the links, going to look through them now. I'm still looking for info and as Lynch stated I bought the medal from an eBay seller selling off his Swiss shooting medal collection a couples years back. Got another 1896 showing figures with rifles.
Hey Brian, The artist/designer was Hugues Bovy 1841-1903. He was Swiss, and designed your medal and the one I posted earlier. As you can see, there are similarities.

I have found power in the mysteries of thought.
It is always a question of knowing and seeing, and not that of believing.
Our virtues, and our failings are inseparable, like force, and matter. When they separate, man is no more.
