Lincoln Proof Registries

I jsut received an E-mail from David Hall in reference to a question I asked about the Lincoln Proof Registries.
"The three Proof Registy Sets will be
1909 to 1916 Matte Proof
1936 to 1958
1968 to date proofs"
Does anyone else find something wrong with this?

  • Don,

I'll go out on a limb and suggest that DH is not a good typist and that it's 59-present on the 3rd set.

I just E-mailed him a reply.I said that I was lead to believe there would only be two sets(1909-1958 & 1959- present).I didn't mention his obvious error on the third set.

Don, I agree that there should be just two proof set registies for Lincolns, but maybe the reason David is separating the Matte Proofs is because they are so rare compared to even the 1936 thru 1942 series. A weighting including the Matte proofs might be unfair to those who do not have them in their set. The 1909VDB is even more difficult to obtain than the other 8 matte proofs. I personally would like to have the 26 coins from 1909 thru 1958 all together, but.... remember what David and others have said. This is all just a work in progress. It CAN change in the future. Thanks for the information. Steve
  • I agree in that it should be two sets - Wheats and Memorials.

If your going to start going crazy then how about:

    Matte Proofs 1909 - 1916
    Wheat Proofs 1936 - 1958
    Memorial Proofs 1959 - 1964
    SMS "Proofs" 1965 - 1967
    Memorial Proof II 1968 - 1977
Memorial Proof III 1978 - to date (DCAM series)

I believe in simplicity and I draw the line at 1958/1959 in my sets

Now that I'm better, I vote for the Memorial and Wheat sets only.
