Completed the Dream - 1993 Finest Refractors

Started to put this together in Jan. '07 after approx. 10 year break from collecting. Its really been fun. A little loftier goal than the '82 Topps set I intended to put together, but when I realized Ebay made putting the Finest set together a possibilty I said "Why not pick a few here and there" - well anyway ended up picking up a bunch here and there. Not the purest set but WOW a whole set of 1993 Finest Refractors - certainly the Mt. Everest of collecting goals for me.

Dedicated to my friend Greg- who passed in 1999- with whom I spent more than a few afternoons driving to the "indoor flea market" or Wal-Mart in search of cardboard gold. We figured you'd really be living the high life if you owned a Nolan Ryan Refractor much less the whole set. This set will certainly represent that time in my life.

Many thanks to Josh Ball - this set could have been named "Josh Ball's Extras" - where most of these cards came, sale or trade; and John Stevens who made me some crucial trades for some toughies. I know both those guys post here. Also got many cards from Jim "mojodoors" on Ebay.

Looking for '94's now.

It is a young Sterling Sharpe. Big Gamec**ks fan so certainly a few Packers cards laying around b/n Sharpe and Robert Brooks. Travis Jervey went to my high school as well.

Dave ................... Congrats on completing this set ! I remember buying a couple of packs of these for my son at a card show ( paid $5.00/pack at the time , the most money I've paid for a pack of cards then , and since ) , hoping to get a Big Mac refractor for him ! Lots of hoopla and excitement back then in the Hobby when these first came out ! You have a nice , decent GPA OF 8.43 also ! I,ve forgotten what the print run for how many refractors were made for each player , was it 200 ?????? .......... Dave ' Robbie ' Robinson

Thanks Robbie. I've got an extra Big Mac BTW... The official "guesstimate" for the refractor run is 241 of each card which was determined by using the insertion ratio of 1 per box vs. the total production of Finest product announced by Topps - so its far from official. Looking at some old Becketts yesterday the set's "book" value is right on par with 1994, and down from its all time high in '96 or so when it peaked around $25,000.00.
