two or three of the american types don't collect any of the others that are listed
Cecil Total Copper Nutcase - African, British Ships, Channel Islands!!! 'Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup'
#13 Roman silver denarius #14 Judean lepton #19 (almost) Egyptian copy of a Trye tetradrachm #70 Mexican pillar dollar #74 balance Mexican peso #75 ? I'm not sure what a "death coin" is. #77 Does a Sung Dynasty bronze cash coin cound as "A New Form of Money"? #80 Chinese sycee #81 Tempoh 100 mon #96 Maria Theresa taler restrike #104 Civil War token #106 I'm not sure which US half dollar the author refers to #107 Indian Head Cent #108 Morgan dollar #109 Lincoln Cent #110 St. Gaudens double eagle (alas, it's not a high relief)
Only 94 more to go!
Which ones do I WISH I had?
#1 Ionian 1/12 stater #4 Aegina silver turtle stater #6 Athenian owl tetradrachm #28 "Ides of March" Roman denarius #61 Henry VIII silver groat #70 Peru gold doubloon #73 8 reales stamped with George III mark #82 Chinese auto dollar #99 Pine Tree Shilling #102 Fugio Cent #105 US Assay Office $50 slug
A couple of the above are affordable. I think my wife will even understand my spending $800 on an Athenian owl tetradrachm because it's "old". She doesn't understand why I'd spend that much money on a US coin.
Luckily, I don't like collecting based on someone else's list of important coins. How can you have a list of important coins throughout history without including the lowly Farthing or the well recognized gold Sovereign?
Just reminds me of those "top 100 best songs of all time" lists.
I rarely agree with those, either. I rarely agree with those, too.
Hmm, I'm not sure which is most correct. Pick one.

I don't have the book. It's hard to guess what some of the Roman coins are supposed to be, just from the witty chapter titles.

Apparently I have been awarded one DPOTD.
And BTW, the 100 mon is absolutely not the most significant Japanese coin in numismatic history.
Edited for clarity. Thanks Shiroh.

109 out of 110 coins isn't bad!

Interesting list, I remember seeing this a year or two back and then forgot where I saw it.
After reading through it, I now remember why I don't collect by lists anymore. I may own four or five from the list, but that's it.
