What is the best way to sell bulk world coins?

I have a case of world coins, I know zero about them. My father passed away and I have no interest in them. What is the best way to sell them?

There are Mexican, Korean, Peru, Nepal, German, French, brazil, Japan, Columbia, Greek and Great Britain coins.

O well, just curious as I know zip about them, and do not want to spend hours, days or weeks researching them.

Weigh them up and sell them by the pound. Take a quick look through them and see if there are many, or any, pre-1900 coins in the lot. If they are all modern coins you will probably only get $4/pound for them.

Don't assume that the coins are crap just because there are a lot of them.

  • Donate them to a club for their YN program.

Our club has received two donations of world coins. Some sorted, and many unsorted. We use them to teach the YNs about coin collecting, and this summer we plan to have something one day a week, every week for the kids that are out of school. We start by getting them sorted by country, then by cataloging and grading. The better ones are placed in 2X2s and priced. We offer them for sale at our coin shows and meetings at 25% off of the price. That money is used to fund our YN program.

Look for a club with an IRS 501 (c)(3) classification since they can give you a receipt for the donation that is tax deductible.

Last year we received over 600 pounds that is still being worked on, and just last week, I picked up 130 pounds that needs to be worked on.

We have several adults that help the YNs and it is a lot of fun. We have had some spectacular finds and have gotten many adults interested in world coins. We even have dealers purchasing coins from our YNs at our shows.
