Paypal Forex Rates

I work with exchange rates daily as part of my work so I think that I know what an acceptable spread is. However I have just completed a transaction from Euro into Sterling through Paypal and found that the exchange rate from mid to offer was nearly what I had expected for the whole spread ( bid - offer ).

Are Ebay/Paypal getting more and more greedy and trying to maintain profits by ripping off their customers ?

I'm a bit sick of all these little 'extras' that they add on.
