NEWP: Sede Vacante medal from Bamberg (1746)

The medal commemorates the death of Friedrich Karl von Schönborn, who was the Bishop of Bamberg and Würzburg (1729-46). The Sede Vacante medal is classified as Zepernick 350, and it is a hair under 54 mm in size. The medal features Emperor Heinrich II (Henry II) on the obverse, who made Bamberg a diocese in 1007, and ordered the first cathedral to be built which was consecrated in 1012. The Archdiocese of Bamberg is one of 27 Roman Catholic dioceses in Germany, and the dioceses of Speyer, Eichstätt, and Würzburg are subordinate to it.
As an interesting side note, von Schönborn's successor was Frankenstein (Johann Philipp Anton von Frankenstein).
