I used to be somebody, now I'm just a coin collector.
Recipient of the coveted "You Suck" award, April 2009 for cherrypicking a 1833 CBHD LM-5, and April 2022 for a 1835 LM-12, and again in Aug 2012 for picking off a 1952 FS-902.
  • According to the Red Book purity figures.

Gold Dollar 31.1 grams x .04837 and you get 1.364 grams of pure gold
Quarter Eagle 31.1 grams x .12094 and you get 3.761 grams of pure gold
Half Eagle 31.1 grams x .24187 and you get 7.522 grams of pure gold.
Eagle 31.1 grams x .48375 and you get 15.044 grams of pure gold

    1 troy oz = 31.1 grams
1 troy oz = 20 dwt (penny weight)
    1 troy oz = 480 grains
    1 dwt = 1.55 gram

The "grains" referred to above, are grains of wheat.
Just get a bushel next time you go to the feed store to pick up pig feed, then use your balance scale to get an accurate weight.
