Early season Mets - Braves games confuse me

stevekstevek Posts: 29,034 ✭✭✭✭✭
I hate both teams - I don't know which to root against more when it's early in the season, when they play each other. I guess with the Braves being 1 - 3 and already looking pathetic, I guess I'll root for them in these early season games against the Pets.

Phillies bats have already woken up. Looks like it could be a long summer for Pets fans with not much hope of beating the Phillies for the NL East title. Maybe the Pets this season can get lucky and catch a playoff spot.

Did we release Tom Gordon yet?

  • Did you forget the classic second-half Phillies collapse? Guess so. 1-3 means nothing right now, and I wouldn't pound my chest about a win over the Nats and Reds. You're currently next to last in the division. Get back to me in August, when typically the Phils enter the realm of irrelevancy.

Last season, as you should know, the Phillies made one of the most remarkable comebacks in MLB history to capture the NL East - that is part of the present since this season just began. I don't dwell on the ancient past.

It wasn't so much the Phillies comeback as the Mets collapse. Oh, and by the way, the Reds just beat you.

I was rooting for the Braves today. I watched that game...nice pinch hit grand slam there to seal the win against the Pets. But the Phillies have more heart than the Pets and the Braves combined...Phillies will at some point in the season pull away from the rest of the NL East pack.
  • The Phillies have more heart? How do you figure that?

Just havin' some fun. Don't think too much about it okay?
  • Sure hope not but it seems the bullpen is going to be Bravos downfall again.

SteveK is nothing, if not delusional, and last season was his Haley's Comet...

braves lineup is sick. case closed. there pitching ehh. phillies lineup is sick case closed. there pitching ehh. mets lineup is not sick pitching is better then the other teams only bc of santana. but not much better.

mets downfall will once again be willie randolph.. someone explain to me why sosa was pitching to kelly johnson in that spot? when feliciano has pitched i think 1 inning if that. sosa was totaly gased and willie left him out there to toss the meatball.

mets might win the division or make playoffs. but im not convinced willie can win the big one. unhappy mets fan tonite image

thank god there is alot of games left for me to vent and change my mind. but like i said i dont think i will ever change my mind on willie. he just doesnt seem to get how to use the bullpen!

Willie Randolph flat out is one of the worst game managers I have ever seen. Sosa was starting to get wild and Randolph should know in a spot like that with the bases jammed, his team behind by a few runs, that a pitcher who has been wild is going to start "aiming" the ball, and when they do that, the ball loses movement and that hitter just sat on that 3-2 pitch and crushed it.

But I hate the Mets...so thank you Willie Randolph! Ha! Ha!

I'm broadening my horizons, but don't worry, you can huff & puff but you can't blow Shea Stadium down (not till the last Billy Joel concert this fall, anyhow). image

We own the Mets. Case closed.

last year mets started 2-8 against the braves ended up being 9-9. still 17 to play. dont get to co@ky yet.
  • We beat supposedly the major's best starter, and completely annihilated John Maine in the first game. I'll be c@cky if I want!

Just kidding. I know it's early, but still 2 great games for the Braves.

Braves scare me more than those Sillies from Philly, I'll tell you that.
