Selling/buying precious metals online or by mail - is it just a bad idea?

It seems to me that bunco artists would be drawn to precious metals transactions. The only time I was ever taken on eBay involved the purchase of a gold coin from a seller in Canada (A complete scam as it turned out. At least it was back in the days when eBay would pay fraud claims even if PayPal hadn't been used.)

Unless I actually know who I am dealing with I would pass on any bullion transactions that involved online or mail dealing.

What do you think?

As long as you know the seller's rep, it is not a problem.

I have done it for years, w/o incident.

I've dealt with Apmex a few times in either direction & always found it easy and quick.

  • I agree with storm888 . over the years I have used ajpm.com a few times .
not endorsing them , just mentioning another site . buyer/seller decides which
online dealer works best for them .
a search would bring up many other places to shop

I just have AGEs minted for me outside of Beijing, saves money overall, and I can get 'em slabbed MS70 for a little extra image

Only an issue when you get taken. I would imagine that if you are trying to sell quick on e-bay you never know when you will get a chargeback or a bad check. If you are buying just stick to the big names and there will be no issues, unless of course you have a rogue mailman.
