Lots of sniping action on Whitman Australian Type Album

I was thinking I might dabble in some Australian coins with an old Whitman Bookshelf type album. I didn't want to spend much so I fired up my sniping software with a modest bid. Some other folks had the same idea. There were 4 snipes in the last 5 seconds for an auction that closed for $11. Interesting behavior.

That actually is pretty cheap IMO. I have one of those around here somewhere.

I agree it's definitely a reasonable price (I was the under bidder). It was just amusing to watch so many low valued snipes.

What sniper program are you using? If you don't mind me asking.

I wrote my own sniper a while back, but recently I've been using JBidwatcher. Its a free java based program. The downside is that your computer must remain on and you're out of luck if your network goes down. The upside is the cost. I'm a big fan of this program especially since I never turn my office computer off. It's also great for tracking auctions.

But are you still as big a fan if you were "out-sniped"?image

That is a pretty good snipe:
    Bidders: 5 Bids: 6 Time Ended: Apr-03-08 12:02:12 PDT

    And mfv52 bid:
    mfv52( 107) US $11.09 Apr-03-08 12:02:12 PDT

I have done a -1 second before, but never an on the dot snipe.

I don't mind being out sniped. If it was an item I really wanted I would have bid stronger.

Seems like all the good World Type albums were made in the 1960s. Pity they're so hard to find nowadays. image

No crap. I want to find an album for German 1 marks, 5 marks, and 10 marks. I will probably find a Dansco or some album with blank pages that will fit the coins and go from there.

I bought that Aussie Dansco from Æthelred a while back, but I've never even put a coin in the thing. Maybe I ought to sell it image Except that I know I paid more than eleven bucks for it image
