Wife wants a coin collection (sorta)

My wife read one of my world coin books the other day and saw an article about coins with endangered animals on them. She has since requested that I get her some coins with animals on them. Not my idea of fun...but nonetheless I will do what she ask. I just bought her a 2008 New Zealand Hamilton's Frog $5 Bullion coin (4000 mintage), so that will anchor her set. With that I ask this. Anyone out there have a few animal coins laying around they want to sell at reasonable prices. I don't want to spend a fortune on this, because I know that she will look at them once and then store them away...so, if you have ideas or coins...let me know. Thanks!
Todd

Lions are endangered and make a great collection

I had to move it recently and lost the IDs. I will get to that later. They are easily identifiable.imageLion on world coins collection

Have her look at this site. An acquaintance of mine from Toronto created it.

I hope so, it sure cost enough. Of course with a mintage of 4000..... I can see why. I sure hope she likes it. She ahs a frog thing so I assume she will.

The animal series on Irish coins comes to mind: Examples
  • Count yourself lucky your wife has an interest in coins. Mine says: "it's a coin"

YOU HAVE A WIFE WHO IS INTERESTED IN COINS.

    Be thankful.

I would buy colorized Statehood quarters or the Legends Of NASCAR Series on painted ASEs if my wife wanted to collect coins. Whatever she wanted!

(Actually, my wife does have a casual interest in the elongated cents, and has a folder for them, but only the ones that are souvenirs of somewhere we've been.)

Not that I am loathing having to buy her coins, it's just I know where they will probably end up. I do hold out hope that she will use them in regards to teaching my son and then pass them on to him...so with that in mind I am buying them. The Irish coins look like a decent starting point and then I'll branch it out from there. Thanks guys!

so your the one that got to the coin on ebay I was gonna buy image Its a very cool coin with a low mintage. Also maybe a koala and kookaburra, kangaroo, panda, there is a cool 2008 polish coin with a peregrine(sp?) falcon on it. You have a lot of freedom with this project, there are so many coins with animals on them. If you want a challenge you can try to find some new zealand kiwi's, somalia monkeys or zambian elephants.

HAHAH, yeah my wife is always supportive of my hobbies so I guess I can't complain! I went out and bought her a coin album to put her coins in, some 2x2's, and then about 20 animal coins. I got her off to a good start!

  • My wife likes the Pandas, especially the Gold ones. She also likes the Australian Lunars in 1/2 oz. And the Koalas. This is while she is saving up for additions to her large size U.S. Currency collection.image

We have great fun going to coin shows.image

Yeah I have to admit the wife turned me on shooting my m16 and Sig 45..... My wife rides mountain bikes with me, goes hiking with me, catches bigger fish than me, is my designated driver, lets me go hand with the boys and the nudey bar, lets me drink, goof off, and still loves me. I must say that I probably have the world's most wonderful wife... Ok enough cheesiness... image

That is a great start... look at coins from Ireland, Australia among others... best of luck.

A 1967 Canadian PL set is a good option.
