A couple months ago I posted that I'm doing a Tahoe Century bike ride (I may have mistakenly called it a race, it's more of a ride than a race).
I began my training on December 20, 2007. This far here are some simple numbers of what training has gone into preparation for that century.
1719 miles of training rides
88 miles is my longest ride to date
3 rides of 70 or more miles
15 rides of 40 or more miles
during this time I invested in a cardiac trainer to chart heart rate, exercise times, calories burned etc.
Thus far:
171 beats per minute is my generally accepted maximum heart rate (for my age) - this is not a firm number, different people can vary by +/- 15 beats per minute
179 is my highest heart rate
Weekly exercise times and calories burned (past 7 weeks):
week 1 - 3630 cal, 7hours 06 minutes
week 2 - 3380 cal, 8hours 27 minutes
week 3 - 5003 cal, 10hours 26 minutes
week 4 - 7808 cal, 16hours 51 minutes
week 5 - 3777 cal, 9hours 20 minutes
week 6 - 7391 cal, 15hours 44 minutes
week 7 - 4959 cal, 9hours 51 minutes
The one statistic I wish I had collected but haven't, is altitude climbed. Many of my rides have included total altitude gaines in the 4500 to 6500 foot range (not a 1 mile uphill ride, but multiple 1500 or 2000 foot climbes with intervening decents).
During this training, my nutrition has changed a bunch. I used to use riding to lose weight, now I'm using it to build up muscle and endurance.
Oh what fun, I can't wait for June 1.
