The "SGS slabs" thread reminded me of my SUCKER story... (with POLL)

Way back when I was a total sucker... (unlike now, where I'm just a partial sucker) I made my first ever coin purchase on ebay... LOL
So, I got suckered into one of those huge (15lbs.? maybe?) bag of *UNSEARCHED wheat cents* with IHCs, slabbed coins & silver PLUS *BONUSES* (for a relative fortune in cold hard cash).
So, the breakdown was something like this:
You really did have to search the wheat cents hard (under plenty of light) when you got them.... just to figure out what the dates were.
I think there were 3 or 4 IHC's... that were way past "cull" & closer to "melt".
Slabbed cents.... 2 were in plastic(I'll get back to those later)... about a dozen in 2x2s (although I haven't quite figured out how they qualified for 2x2 status).
Silver.... oh yeah.... a 1g. "ingot" charm from the acclaimed "International Monetary Mint".
BONUSES!!!! .... 2 (count 'em - TWO) bent & holed world coins (1945 Indie half-cent & 1966 20 centavos).
So, in sum.... I'll NEVER fall for that crap again!!
But - back to SGS slabbed coins...
Well, the two Lincoln Wheat Cents in plastic slabs were:
1937-D SGS MS70 & 1955-S NMC MS68
(Hey, they were actually the two best coins in my new "hoard".... full dates and nice shiny red color)
Now.... I easily found out plenty on SGS when I researched my *great good fortune*... but NADA on NMC (Nu-Mint Certification)???
So, I am still (morbidly) curious, to this day, to find out any info on this elusive "TPG" - ANYONE????

My first slap in the face was an 1880-s morgan in an NTC 66 holder with rainbow toning...
AT'ed to hide what marks were in the field, no better than a 64, paid well over 100% of its actual value for it.
Never heard of NMC but I can say that sgs definitely does NOT grade accurately.
(note... don't confuse SGS with SEGS.)
(Gee... will surprises never cease... even an unknown "home-made" slabber beat SGS's graders...)
anywho...
I'm still waiting for the other pollster that voted for NMC to fess up..... do you have one of the Nu-Mint graded coins?? Can I see it??? Huh, huh... please?? I'll show you mine....
Never heard of NMC, but more of these fly by night self-slabbers are popping up every day.
I actually would have voted for NMC just 'cause I know SGS's reputation for slabbing almost everything as a 70...do you have a pic of the NMC slab? Just curious!

<< <i>I have dealt with abon extensively- SGS is a joke as a grading service but it is cheaper than putting your coins in 2 x 2's and you do not have to worry about staple marks. If I get coins graded in SGS holders i just drop it 2 points blindly and if I am interested in re-selling it I will then analyze it- I feel like SGS is just there because ABON throws so much business their way- Actually, SGS may be the personal grader for ABON. Just a thought... I have never seen them both in the same place
anywho... >>
SGS is Aboncom, and vice versa. Cheaper to buy the CW holders (or Air-tites) onesself, and reduce the possibilities, however remote, of a nice coin being "accidentally" swapped out with another one.

About 4 years ago, I did a "whois" lookup at register.com for stargrading.org & the same names were associated with both Abon Enterprises & the stargrading.org domain. At that time, "abon enterprises ltd." was listed as the Admin Organization for the domain (now it is "Star Grading Service"). SGS is now using a Bellville, Ohio address (they were using Hamilton, Ohio a few years ago). Abon Enterprises still uses the Mansfield location, just 10 miles from Bellville.

<< <i>Hey, I saw a 1909VDB in an SGS slab this week on ebay.....sit down for this.......MS-67 RB !!!! >>
I would be much more worried about the authenticity of this coin than the grade.
I've been to Abon-used to cherrypick them from time to time-an 1857 FE cent clashed with a Seated Quarter and several 1970 Small Date Proof and Mint Sets among other things. I'd visit 'em more often but they're 60 miles away.
