What's going on with this 46 Lincoln? Is this an error? Help Please.

Found this going through a bunch of coins a friend dropped off for me to look at.
Could this have happened in an old penny vending machine? At the mint?
Any help appreciated.

    struck on foreign planchet?
I'll see your bunny with a pancake on his head and raise you a Siamese cat with a miniature pumpkin on his head.

You wouldn't believe how long it took to get him to sit still for this.

Check the diameter, it looks like it's been rolled or spooned, a start of a ring or something.

I agree, post mint damage by rolling the edge. Should have a smaller diameter.

I read an article recently (CoinWorld maybe?) that this type of effect is seen when a coin gets stuck in a washing machine drain pump, dryer, or other similar device where it is rolled around and around for an extended period of time.

I have a nickel around here somewhere with a very similar edge on it. If I can find it, I'll try and get a photo of it.

You could have read it in this thread, it seems like similar "error" coins are posted here every couple of months.
