What's going on with this 46 Lincoln? Is this an error? Help Please.

Found this going through a bunch of coins a friend dropped off for me to look at.
Could this have happened in an old penny vending machine? At the mint?

I agree, post mint damage by rolling the edge. Should have a smaller diameter.

I have a nickel around here somewhere with a very similar edge on it. If I can find it, I'll try and get a photo of it.

You could have read it in this thread, it seems like similar "error" coins are posted here every couple of months.
