i believe memphis is where they are shipped from after delivered to by subs that 'roll' them and bag them.

  • I am curious because i am sending back 5 gold buffs and want to make sure they get to the right people so i get my refund. Is there a chance of pilferage like at the U.S.post office when sending back valuable items?

As final packaging (mail containers) is concerned Memphis is the place. Although I hear the Mint, wanting to reduce cost, is considering having this contracted to a company in mainland China.

As with anything, there is always a chance that some worker will subcontract himself/herself out and run off with your goods but for the US Mint, that would be a Federal offense punishable in a Federal Court! The risk to a would be thief is very high.

I send my returns to the address on the pre-addressed label that comes with the packing slip and have never had a problem. If you are really worried, simply insure your buffs as collectibles which is what the US Mint recommends anyway. Hopefully you are still within your 30 day return window?

5 gold buffaloes is a lot of money. It will cost your extra but registered mail is the safest way and if you need peace of mind that they get their safely.
  • registered mail may be safer but it will take a loooong time to get there based on my experience.
