Morgan Micro O Scenario...VAM guys

If the counterfeiter/s (assumed) who made the '96, '00, '01, and '02 micro O's used a regular sized "O" mintmark, do you think anyone would have discovered that these coins were faked? Or, would it just have taken much longer to discover? Or, are they just so good of a fake, that its possible that no one would have discovered these?

Inquiring mind looking for opinions...

With the advent of VAM collecting, they would have been discovered, but it would probably have taken a while, IMO.

I think they would have been discovered eventually, just not with the same fanfare. The origin of the micro O's was controversial before they were "ruled" counterfeit. Nobody had ever seen a sharply struck, high grade specimen. Had a normal O reverse been used (actually, there are normal O reverses in the family tree of these counterfeits), the coins would not have been sought after, and those that were discovered in high enough grade (XF) would have been looked upon as inferior specimens at best and possible counterfeits at worst. Nobody would pay more than melt for any of them in that grade, and since they were silver, nobody would care.
