This vending machine accepts Dollar Coins: Not!

Posted on our town's parking meters are signs that say 'This machine accepts nickles, dimes, quarters and dollar coins'.
I tried several times to use a new Madison dollar, but the machine kept spitting it back with a message saying 'Exceeds Maximum'.
HAPPY COLLECTING!!!

Maybe its like the parking meter on my desk that gives you 2 hrs for a quarter so a dollar would exceed the maximum time that the meter allows. I'm guessing you don't get 2 hrs for a quarter on the modern meters.

    Could be!

I know of some meters in Denver across from Rocky Mountain Coins that will not allow you to put quarters in. Well, let me rephrase that, they accept quarters but do not increment the time as only nickels and dimes do that. And no, they don't return the quarters.

Now, in my dyslexic old age, I may have this exactly backwards but I do know that I've lost money on those friggin meteres!
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

    The name is LEE!

30 min for each nickel 1hr for one dime --For convenience- 2hrs for one quarter.

Thats what mine says, but I think the modern machines must cost more than this.

Try a sac dollar....it will likely take it.
We have a machine in our building, food vendoring, and it had the "Take dollar coins!" on it. It did take the Sacs. When the prez bucks came out, I tried them. Wouldn't take them.

I think others tried as well as someone has scratched off the sticker that had the "Take dollar coins!"....

Not sure of what differences it caught in the bucks, but there has to have been something.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Maybe it's a really old meter, try using an Ike, and if that doesn't work, pull out the Peace or Morgan.
Listen. Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony.

A gold dollar might be small enough to work. Give that a try.
