Unpaid item Strike?

I "bought" a card for $0.99. One of those last minute deals where i saw no bids and put one in real quick with 1 minute to go. Turns out no paypal and money orders only. I honestly didn't want the card bad enough to go get a money order or anything. I emailed the seller right away to tell him that I'm not gonna pay and that I'm sorry. Today, I received an unpaid item strike. I'm not quite sure what this means, any help?

Is what you got a "strike notice," or a UPI-dispute notice?

    From ebay help:

Buyers automatically enter into a legally binding contract to purchase the item from the seller if they win the online auction or use the Buy It Now feature. eBay's Unpaid Item policy requires buyers to pay the seller for the items that they commit to purchase.

Sellers can file an Unpaid Item dispute with eBay for each of their items that are purchased but not paid for. eBay will issue a strike on the account of the buyer who does not honor their obligation to pay (unless the buyer and seller mutually agree not to complete the transaction).

Note: If a buyer gets too many strikes in too short a time period, their account will be suspended indefinitely. In some cases, limits may be placed on the buyer’s account in advance of suspension.

    Appealing Unpaid Item Strikes

When buyers do not pay for items they have bought or won, they have violated eBay’s Unpaid Item Policy, and and eBay may issue a strike on the buyer’s account. However, sometimes a buyer may receive a strike despite having paid for the item.

An Unpaid Item strike can be removed if:

eBay is provided an accepted proof of payment by email, fax or postal mail or

eBay is provided with proof that the seller excused the buyer from their obligation or

The seller removes the strike themselves

Note: If you are a seller and would like to remove an Unpaid Item Strike from a buyer’s account, see Removing an Unpaid Item strike.

Providing proof of payment to eBay

Examples of Unpaid Item strike removals

    Accepted proof of payment
eBay accepts any of the following as proof of payment:

Copy of a check or money order – Send photocopies of the front and back of your check or money order (or money order receipt). Include the item number and your User ID.

Email communication between you and the seller – Send eBay copies of email that you sent to the seller. Please include the email headers.

Copy of payment confirmation from PayPal or other payment service – Send or email a copy of your payment confirmation email from PayPal or a confirmation email from another payment service. Please include the email headers.

Proof that the seller left you positive feedback for the transaction – If the seller left you positive feedback, send eBay an email including the item number so that we can verify the feedback.

Proof that the seller excused you from the transaction – Send a copy of the email showing that the seller excused you from the transaction. Please include the email headers.

Providing proof of payment to eBay
Email – You can submit your appeal with email evidence through the online Unpaid Item Bidder Appeal form.

Fax – Include the following on the documentation you submit to eBay:

    Item number

    Your User ID

Write "Bidder Appeal" on the fax cover page

    Fax your appeal to: 1-888-379-6251

Note: Hard copy appeals often take up to 10 business days to process.

Examples of Unpaid Item strike removals
Example 1 – Mary buys a lamp from Steve and mails him a check for the item. Unfortunately, the check is delayed in the mail for over 2 weeks. Concerned about non-payment, Steve files an Unpaid Item claim against Mary which results in Mary receiving a strike. The next day, Steve receives Mary’s check for payment and ships her lamp with an apology note. Mary can now appeal the unpaid item strike by sending a photocopy of the note and cashed check.

Example 2 – Sarah is purchasing designer glass beads from Colin. She wishes to buy 10 beads and places a multi-quantity bid for 10. She later finds out that she has bid on 10 lots and each lot contains 10 beads. Not knowing what to do with so many beads, Sarah only pays for one lot but offers her apology to the seller. Satisfied with the apology, Colin excuses Sarah from purchasing the remaining 9 lots and files an Unpaid Item claim to recover Final Value Fee credits. Sarah received an Unpaid Item strike, but she can now appeal that strike by sending the email communication excusing her from the transaction to eBay with the appeal.

It means you now have "one strike" on your account for non-payment.
If you get 3, your account will be permanently suspended "NARU" - not a registered user

It's not the seller's fault that you didn't read the description.

    Goot

Ebay will also remove a strike for you too.

They do that 1x for people.

EBAY usually does a "courtesy removal" of the first-strike, upon request.

You could tell them you misread the listing and thought that PayPal was
accepted. Since EBAY hates folks who don't take PP, maybe they will
be sympathetic and remove the strike.

This will work best over the phone, with the VERY highest person in
    authority that you can reach.

    The seller obviously filed a dispute. You should have answered it;
you could have weaseled out of the strike by answering the complaint
    correctly.

You know, Goot, those little sellers like to get paid; it is not polite
to screw up their listing and then not pay. You really should have
sent a MO. Next time, think how you would feel if the situation was
    reversed.

I am NOT scolding you. Just telling you how it is.

Storm I had a strike taken away from me once and I did it thru the computer.

I was in the hospital and a snipe I had set won.

Long story short before I knew it I was negged and had the strike.

Somehow I managed to get it taken off without calling them.

    Yup.

I have never tried it, but I am sure it is the most common way.

Won't he accept cash? Just send him a dollar...

  • Will all respect, you can't simply bid and something and then not pay it. If you bid, you gotta pay, and at worst you would email the person and say you really didn't know he didn't accept paypal and that you wouldn't bid if you knew, but then again its your responsibility to read first, and then you should tell him you would pay all fees, but it wasen't a lot of money anyway, so you should have just paid it.

I thought you were gona say that you emailed the person to tell him that you were gona pay his fees because you didn't want it and you didn't realize that he didn't accept paypal. Instead you emailed him saying you weren't interestead and your not paying? image

I wouldn't want to get a non-paying warning for 99 cents, maybe $99 or more. I never bid or purchased something and didn't pay, no matter what the price was.

Alright man, hope you don't get anymore strikes, there just not worth it!

I think they will pretty much always remove them if you call them. Even past the 1x.

I'm with Grote on this one... I would just send cash and avoid the hassle and expense of a money order personally. I think we have all placed a bid without reading all the fine print... just pay the man and chalk this up to a learning experience, Goot.

There is no set number for strikes to NARU a buyer.. It used to be three, but there have been cases where the first has done the trick.

If you have the strike even if Ebay removes it you will automatically be put on many sellers BBLs Ebay allows a block for buyers who have a non-paid strike issued in the 30 days.

It has also been indicated that Ebay is going to do away with the free removal of one strike. Who knows though.

The CEO of feebay has stated he wants to remove the "flea market" look from Ebay. I will continue to BUY there as I have noticed that the prices have taken a downturn and it is worth it to me to go back to the flea market, adjusting my focus to local collectables while buying at a discount. I deal mostly in cards for a dollar each as I have found that they are a easy sale for me. LOL I have 10k cards at a buck each- basically 3 monster boxes full of some neat stuff. Most people could care less about "graded" cards hence josefina1747 and the guy from PR selling the Pete Rose reprints- all they really care about is-does the card look cool and can I buy it cheap? If Fleabay doesn't want my business as a seller that is ok by me, I am a dealer and not a powerscammer.
