ever thought of removing all the laces from a signed ball and displaying it flat?

would that be a stupid idea?
I was thinking about doing that with my golf tournament ball that was signed by players from all sports and a couple celebs. Then making a list of all the players and framing it together

My reply above was to your question in the title, not your specific post.

Never thought about doing it zep.
I'm kind of a purist - and I wouldn't like to see that - I really don't care for jerseys and balls being chopped into little pieces either.
Sigs on a ball have a certain appeal - and I also like flats - but then the pics make a sig have another/different appeal to me.
Plus, I - personally - envision something that would look kind of sloppy if the ball were dismantled.

Sorry I have nothing to add except what has already been said. I think we all have the purist school of thought that Mike refers to, that's the reason you're asking right? But some autos, like your ball, are just about the autos... even a purist wouldn't really know what to do with a matchbook or a hardball signed by a boxer or movie star... er whatever???
Goots idea sounds like the best place to start, excellent idea.
Great thread, hope to hear lots of opinions on this.

I couldn't understand the logic there, unless the laces were so worn and damaged it was a threat to fall apart anyway ?
It was an autographed Babe Ruth baseball , I have been trying to find a pic of it , but now I can't find it !
<< <i>Have you ever seen the immortal autographs in UD Sweet spot where they take autos from real baseballs? They normally end up looking like crap because the leather gets scrunched up. If you want to do it, I'd buy a cheap ball, sign it myself and then cut it up to see the effect that it has on the signatures. Don't go straight for the real one. >>
Hadn't thought of that Goot - true. Wonder if it being pressed against the glass while framed would keep that from happening.
