USPS insurance question

in U.S. Coin Forum
If a seller ships an item worth over $500 and insures it, but doesn't do delivery confirmation, how can one find out the status of the package? I typed in the insurance # the seller gave me but the USPS track and confirm didn't give me anything. Thanks!
