1833 Capped Bust Half Dollar, Odd Rim -- You Make the Call...

Here is one I recently picked up via the internet, it arrived in the mail today. What do you make of the "issue" near Star 13? Is it a cud, lamination problem, rim ding, or whatever? After looking at it closely with a 10x loupe I'm still not sure. What do you think?

I'm thinking it's a couple of die chips which filled in part of the denitcles.

    I'm fairly certain it's not a CUD

Not sure, but looks like a minor planchet lamination to me.

  • My guess is also a lamination. I've got a Walking Liberty with what I (and PCI) mistakenly thought was a cud, but Mr. Weinberg pointed out that it was a lamination which had worn. It looks similar to yours.
