I am not sure why they did but between the nickel and the return address stickers, you would have to be a cold hearted meanie not to send them something back. I got a 1989D! It's the first time anyone has ever sent me cold hard cash in a solicitation

I've received a few charitable solicitations that actually included a crisp dollar bill. They all said something like, "Now that we have your attention, here's a dollar bill to brighten the day of a child in your life." Strange. Sometimes you see certain phrases, angles, or strategies making the rounds in marketing communications / public relations / fundraising circles, and apparently this tactic was the flavor of the month for a while.
