I'm the high bidder, but I will lose. Look at my post on the Open Forum about the coin.
<<Honestly, when I think of $200,000 coins a 1909VDB MPL doesn't come to mind.>>
NO Lincoln comes to mind for me. But that's just an opinion. Yeah, I know - 1943-D copper cent, 1919 MS69 Cent, blah blah blah. It's funny if you really think of things. Some error at the mint, and it had a "D" on it, or it does NOT have a "D", or it has doubling, or whatever, and they are selling for $100,000+.
But: If they are RARE to begin with, and they have weathered the passing of time, preserved in gorgeous condition, and many would like to own it, well...
Thanks for chiming in about Stewarts 1914 MPL. I read your post on the other forum, it was very interesting. I guess you believe we are cruising to over 100K with this one?

If I got it at this level, I would be very surprised. Only because I know the offers he received before for this particular one. (I was THERE in person and heard one of them).
TDN: BOTH of the 1914 MS68's look the same to me. HARDLY a difference. One might think Stewart only sells his "second-bests".
I had the opportunity to watch the bidding live on the Heritage site tonight. First time for me. Stewart's coin sold for $126,500 with the juice. It was an internet bidder so I hope it was someone we know. Congratulations to Stewart and the winner. Brian may want to comment further about this sale.
Other Lincolns that sold tonight.
1914D NGC 66RD for $32,200 incl 15% 1917 PCGS 67RD for $13,800 incl 15% 1921S PCGS 65RD for $25,300 incl 15% 1955DD PCGS 64RD for $12,650 incl 15%
Only the 1921S was a floor bid. The others were internet.
I would like to here a few comments from Stewartblaynumis about his thoughts on this coin. Did it sell for more/less than he thought? etc. This was part of a ungraded proof set he bought a few years back?
Where does this sell put this MPL on the all time list of recoreded prices paid for MPL's over the years?
Mark NGC registry V-Nickel proof #6!!!! working on proof shield nickels # 8 with a bullet!!!!
How much fun would that be??? Let's let each coin come in own its own. So far each has a story attached to it. I've thought about those guys that buy complete sets, and while I admire what they do, I somehow feel like they are missing something from the whole experience.
(BTW - if he offered I wouldn't turn it down!! (LOL)

I'm not so sure he has any "seconds"!!!
