<< <i>Am I confused or is this coin quite worn? I would have guessed VF-20. Are these as poorly struck as the 1807s? >>
You are not confused.
People need to understand the AU stands for About Uncirculated.
Some have taken market grading to a whole new dimension.
These coins commonly come with a weak strike. That said, this one looks to have 40 details.
I could see it going 1 grade higher or lower depending on the luster and the look in hand (this pic makes it tough to judge)
so it could go 45 with good skin.
With this one (from this photo) I'd maybe go 40 with a weaker strike. The flow lines around the rims are rather pronounced. Light dip? Most likely. Still a very nice coin. O. 102s (R.2) with the great die cracks through the date and stars. It's a nice coin. Good luck with it.

Here is my 1808 O-102 that is the same variety and just about the same die state.
This one is in a 58 slab and is a 58 as a comparison.
Let me just add that I like your new coin.
<< <i>Pcgs VF-35,looks undergraded by 5 points or so to me. >>
I would have guessed XF-40.
