1968 Topps Baseball Thread

I see more and more people collecting 68's so I though I would start a thread. I enjoying seeing everyone picking up some nice raw cards or graded cards from shows or ebay or other sources. I've been working on th e68 set for almost 2 years and no how hard it is to find descent cards, now maybe with other collectors in the pic it might be easier. I will be really looking forward to the scans, pics of the cards that you have.

As soon as I get enough cards put together. I had a few more raw ones sent to me today and I will probally grade only 3 of them the rest of them suck. Ill try to get some pic scanned of the nm-mt cards that someone said in the auction and came to me in a vg condition. I was pissed

These cards were a little better 8 for the top and 7 for the bottom

Not grading would probally get a 6

I have a neat story to share and maybe a few cards. Two years ago my neighbor Jim showed me a box of '68 topps he had from his childhood. All were in a cheese box and were in pack fresh shape. Jim bought them as a boy, looked at them a few times, and then put them in this box where they sat untouched since the late 60's. We picked the best 50 and sent them off to PSA and ended up with two psa 10's, 30 psa 9's, and the rest psa 8's. That was as fun as it gets. A guy doesn't find to many stashes like that anymore!! I still have about 50-70 commons from that find that are as mint as can be but are Off-centered in various degrees. If anyone is building a nice raw set and isn't concerned about centering shoot me an email and I'll let you know what I have. I'm going to look through the stack right now!! I hope not to cut my fingers.. these cards are that sharp!

No, I'm not building a set of any kind. I was planning on adding them to a bulk sub.

Have variations in my set to 10, 49, 66, 67, 192, 258, 278, 279, 302, 337, 356,, 400, 454, 518...plus two 5 cent unopened wax packs, 3 wrappers, three 68 Discs...(these are tough) , two 9 card uncut 68 Deckle proof sheets ( black and red autos... looking for blue and would pay premium), 68 game card set and boxed set, set of 68 Action Stickers ( full panels), and one unopened pack, and a set of the Poster inserts (24)...plus the 2 Plaks card checklists, 12 individual plaks and two unopened Plaks packs. Good year....not as good as 67 for cards and inserts/test items...but good

Would like to see some pic Bishop, sounds like you really like 68 material. Ive always wanted to buy a 68 unopened pack and do a live rip on the boards but costs little much and I still have to finish my set first.

Bishop-What variations are there? I am aware of the senators cards in white and yellow-but I thought there was only 2 cards # 49 and ?....

10...is either Lonborg ot Longborg ( front) 49 Brinkman...yellow/white team 66 Cox...same as Brinkman 67...placment of copyright line varies on back 192, wording variation on back and cap logo variation on front 258 rookie stars in red or orange 278 copyright on back to left or right 302 Arrigo can be found blackless 337 Robinson same as Arrigo ( not sun damage...black does not fade away...not proofs, regular backs) 356 placement of Holtzman's head in circle 400 McCormick white /yellow team 454 Robinson with chain showing or not 518 the # 539 listings are different . Can send color copies bu can not scan

The 2nd series checklist card #107 has different burlap fronts as it was double printed, once with the first series and then in the second series.

Gilkeson included that one and I think a couple of other 68 CLs with in his publication. I could never find two that looked different enough to me...but I have old eyes. Do you have 2 where you can see a difference ?

Recieved some poppage on some 68's, few that I broke out of old psa holders, cards I thought would have been better graded. Did pretty good on the Higher dollar cards.

I have some cherry '68 cards just up on ebay. Auction # 150240793523.. I have 30-50 more commons in nm/mt condition except for some centering issues. All have only been handled 3-4 times since being taken out of packs back in '68 and look just like the day they were opened 40 years ago! I can send scans to you if you want to see a better close up!
