Picked up some Topps Opening Day

Why? cheap, new and something to rip tonight since there was no Heritage left.

First cards I've bought in a month.

I think they actually look real nice with the red background and gold print

got 2 boxes to rip and scan anything worthy as I go

also grabbed a box of 06 Bowman Heritage since I never bought any before and he was kinda wanting to get rid of them. Probably crack that open tomorrow during the Sox game

    Uh-oh - I like these

the white cards are # to 2199 and you get 1 per pack. Shouldn't be too costly to put that set together

the red cards are the base and look real cool IMO

inserts are odd. There's a puzzle, tatoos of mascots (can't wait to cover my body in those and run naked around the house), some kind of stand up, folding card (the Arod in this scan)

    and GUM!! yum, yum gum

  • Nice looking cards. I like how the gum is individually wrapped.

I really got hooked on the idea of putting together one of the serial #d sets so I picked up 5 more boxes on Saturday.

Opened the first box last night and pulled these 2 beauties:

I take it that that is the way the Series 2 Topps Pujols will look? There is no Pujols in Series 1 Topps. When does Series 2 come out? Or, have I missed it and it's ALREADY out?

the sell sheet says 65 preview cards of series 2. That won't be out for a couple months I think
  • PM sent on the gum

Nice pulls! That Freddy Sanchez plate is nice.

  • How'd you do on the Bowman Heritage boxes?

Zep pulls two 1 of 1 printing plates and a bunch of ink. Nothing new here. image Rinse. Wash. Repeat.
  • He won't make you rich, but Wade Townsend will be on the fast track to the majors. He was coming off surgery last season and spent last year in low-A ball. In the offseason alone he's jumped up to AA and the Rays still want to use him as a reliever and want him up by the 2009 season. Just in case you were wondering about the Rays future relievers image

Goot - thanks for the info

This minor league moment was brought to you by the makers of Goot flakes. When corn flakes just wont do, now there's Goot flakes.

Not quite sure if this is a compliment or not but I prefer FROSTED Flakes.

Neither a compliment, nor an insult. Just going for a laugh. Same as if I had said, this Tampa farm report has been brought to you by Goot beer. When your having the guys over to watch the big game, make sure there's plenty of Goot in the fridge.

    LOL, Right !

I think I have pulled 2 printing plates in the whole time I have been collecting !

I really got to find out where he gets his boxes !

That's a hot spot , kinda like how ya have your hot spots for lottery tickets ?

He's found the hot spot for cards . . .

Edited to ADD: ~~~~> INKREDIBLE !

LOL the box that had the first plate was my usual store and the 2 autos and other plate came from a store I hadn't been to since last year while buying Heritage - (but the Ryan Howard red ink auto did come out out of that store last year)

got 2 more boxes to open at some point but doubt anything good can possibly come from it. I killed the odds already.

Sell sheet says 1 auto per hobby case (1:359) and the plates are 1 in about a case and a half(1:546)

I did some math last night and although this set seems to be aimed at the younger crowd?? (the 99 cent a pack price tag helps) , it appears to me that it's a fairly "lightly" produced set)

since there is 1 card numbered to 2199 in every pack and the set is only 220 cards, that would only be 483,780 packs produced (13,438 36 pack boxes). Wouldn't that pale in comparison to most modern sets?.
They are 6 card packs including an insert in most packs so each pack produces either 4 or 5 base cards.

Looks like none of the #'d cards, autos, or plates will be in the retail or blasters though. Maybe that's what they flood the market with.

I'm gonna have bunch of extra #'d cards if anyone decides to work on those. LMK

  • I bought a couple of boxes at Target yesterday and I'm really enjoying the product. I like the red borders and the OD logo on the front and back. I'll post my trade list soon.

Zep- If you have any doubles, I may need your help in finishing my set. From my initial sorts, it looks like I have about 85% of the set from the two boxes I bought.

Opening day is limited. No one every advertises that, but it is made in lesser quantity than say heritage. Actually the Arod inserts out of
06 sell for over 100 bucks a pop and I believe those were 1:36 packs last year. I opened 8 packs and was pulling quite a bit of numbered
    stuff.

This years product looks great. A fun set to put together with kids if you have any. Thanks for showing!
