It was one of those things that is a great idea, but like most of MLB's marketing, it just falls short. MLB is and always has been my favorite sport; it has great players, ballparks, and intentions, but when it comes to the next generation of fans, MLB can't seem to get it right. If I were 12 years old again, I would have been waiting for my local card store to open, just for a chance at a free pack. A free pack of cards would have been like gold, yet very few people(especially kids) even knew that free packs were available.
I DO think that the free pack will eventually show up in my mail-box(maybe by the All-Star Break) but that's not the point at all. How many kids are still waiting for their free pack? MLB just doesn't ever seen to get it right.

Well, I'm having a different problem with mlb right now and can see how this carries over.
I subscribed to mlbtv when the sox were in Japan and used it for about a week to watch a few different games but in the end I didn't use it enough to justify giving them 20 bucks a month.
So this past Saturday, before my month was up, I decided to go online and cancel my account. I found no way on line to do it myself. All I could find was a FAQ with the answer being you have to call them or send an email to cancel your account. There is no way you can just do it yourself online. I guess they still don't realize this is 2008 and there should be no way that it's not possible to cancel your own account. So I called the 800 # to cancel. Of course I got a complete moron at the other end of the phone that put me on hold about 5 times while trying to figure out how to do it. At first she said she was able to keep my account from automatically renewing and gave me a tracking # for it in case it didn't work. I said what? then forget that and just cancel it outright. On hold I went again, and when she came back, gave me another tracking # and said I was all set. I didn't feel right about it so I sent a follow up email with both tracking #s and told them to make sure that my account was in fact cancelled. No reply to that of course and sure enough this morning, I was billed for $19.95 for my subscription. I just sent them about 15 more emails and will be calling them at 9AM when they open up.
I will be going as high in the chain as I need to go about them stealing my 20 bucks and will also bring up the cards they never sent to anyone as well.
