Can you imagine what those flintstones era digicams looked like?
I could. Just have to sell almost all of my other coins to buy it.
It is a beautiful coin.

and also heavily popular at the moment and ?marketed?. the time to buy can never truly be determined but it was probably 3-5 years ago. one should seek out what is not popular at the moment and consider those :-)
A couple of more sales this year and that coin will hit $30,000. Same thing happened in Texas real estate 20 years ago. ( RTC took charge and $ 60,000 dollar duplexs sold for $12,000 1 year later at government auction) As long as there is another willing player to buy and pass it on, it works well. I collect MPL's myself and i am starting to scratch my head in disbelief. Coin brought 9200 in a heavy advertised auction atttended by experts and big money buyers 40 days ago and now the same coin is $6000 more. That is a price jump, i may have to sell my 7 MPL's shortly. I will be interested to see what happens to the MPL's the year after Lincoln's 100 year bash. You can ask what you want for a coin but you still have to find a buyer.

Great coins are not cheap, and cheap coins are not great!
I never believe for an instant that an auction price realized is the highest value a coin is worth.
For what it's worth, I'll let you know what I'm thinking when I am buying a coin.
I bought this beauty at Phoenix ANA. I missed it at the auction since I was concentrating on Indan cents. I did make a mistake in not using the auction price to try and get it cheaper.
When you evaluate any coin to buy you look at the coin and determine if it meets the grade. -- YES, it's one of the finest, IMO.
Then you see if the asking price is fair. In this case PCGS says $27K and there are only 2 graded at PCGS. There are 2 NGC's and they sold for $11.5K and 9.2K. For the PCGS pieces, one sold in 2003 for $36.8K and in 2004 for $25.5.
I see a $15K holder premium here! We all know how hard it is to get a PR67RD graded or even harder, to cross an NGC! So, when offered the coin, I thought, yes, it's fair for the coin. I think at some point the holder premium gets too much and people overlook the inherent value of the coin.
I like the coin, and I am very comfortable with the valuation. You can see it in person at the Cental States show.
Same serial number. Rick is a trustworthy source for coins, and I nothing but good things to say about him.
Images are tough to grade from. When I see to dramatically different photos of any coin, the first thing that comes to mind is that the truth is probably somewhere in between the two photos.
I also have a hard time trusting any Lincoln in an NGC holder, whether MS or PR. It's just one of those series where you positively have to see the coins in hand.

What was it two years ago guy bought a Segs lincoln at a Heritage auction, crossed it to PCGS and made several thousands? Don't remember the exact profit and date on the lincoln, the story showed up in the registry forum. All the so called lincoln experts passed this one by, as well as all of the self professed lincoln expert dealers.

I didn't buy it in the auction. In fact I gave the buyer a very good profit!

you goto every major auction in the US? just curious.

I didn't think the 68 looked all that spectacular - possibly the photography of that piece was substandard?
