1844-0 EAGLE PCGS PR64DCAM UNIQUE! "PARMELEE SPECIMEN"

This is the legendary Lorin G. Parmelee
specimen. This coin first appeared in the
sale of The Parmelee Collection of 1890.
The coin brought the bargain price of
$16.00 in the sale. The coin appeared
again in in the William Wooden sale of
March 3-4 1910 where it attained the lofty
price of $50.00.

David Akers stated that at the time he
published his great works on US Federal
Issue Gold coins that "The present location
of this Unique Proof is unknown to me."
The fact is that the location of this coin
was unknown for 84 years! I purchased the
coin in a partnership with the late Mike
Brownlee in 1995. Mike Brownlee was contacted
by a dealer who said he knew the wherabouts
on the coin and Mike Brownlee call me and
asked if I would partner the coin. I said
yes and the price wasen't a major concern.
I just told him to get the coin in his pocket
and then we will negotiate a price. We paid
the asking price. There were no negotiations.
We did pay more than $50.00!

The only information we received at the time
was that the coin was held by a United States
Diplomat and his family for 84 years.
I am currently offering the coin to serious
buyers. Images and price will be provided
upon request. This is your chance to own a
piece of Numismatic History that no one else
can own. Please email all requests to my personal
email address ARTGLASS2000@AOL.COM. Thank you.

  • Wow! I wish I could afford that coin. I say that not even knowing the asking price.

How about a scan for us? Will you post one to your website? (Sorry if you've already done so, I didn't find it, a link would be neat)

I love an attractive coin (using my imagination here and hoping to see a scan posted in the future) with a story. The only thing I'd love more is to be able to afford it. Let's see...sell the house, auction off a few of the grandchildren...image. Now if you have State Quarters sell for $5,000 and Franklin Halves selling for $60,000+ how do you even put a price tag on a coin like this?
The longer I live the more convincing proofs I see of this truth, that God governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without His notice is it possible for an empire to rise without His aid? Benjamin Franklin
  • The funny thing is, the POP report used to (and maybe still does) lists this as a "pop 2". image same coin, broken out and resubmitted without the insert.

  • Priceless. I am sure most of you have seen
those commercials. I will have the computer
department (My Son) post a scan on the site
tomorrow for all to see. I also think if you
search for 1844-0 on Google.com there is a
    good picture there.
