How do you rate the quality of 2008 W unc Silver American Eagles.....

bumanchubumanchu Posts: 1,383 ✭✭✭

I just screened 125 2008 W's and only about 20 are worthy of sending across the street for a possible "70".

PCGS 70 quality......maybe one.

If this is an indication of the quality of this year's production, I'm not sure I would send them to a TPG "blind" in sealed boxes.

What is your experience this year?
And I ain't lying this time.

I had 2 subscriptions for 25 coins both arrived today.
I sent a box of 25 back to the Mint.
Of the other 25 I sent 5 to PCGS of which 2 will likely grade 70.
    I sent 14 to NGC which I think 7-8 will grade 70.
The remaining 6 I will keep as bullion of which none would grade 69 at PCGS.

I also would advise NOT to send these in blind as half would not likely grade 69 at PCGS.

Still waiting for my subscription to arrive; they say they shipped USPS says no record of tracking number.

I just got a set of all 23 uncs on eBay from Aboncom. Paid about $600 with shipping and everything. They were all 'graded' by SGS as MS70, but I figure that averaging $26 each it was still a good deal, even if they all ended up being VFs.

    Anyone else?

I have 30 more to evaluate tonight/this weekend.

    Will post results.....

  • I canceled my orders, had a subscription and they were backordered status to ship 4/2... don't know what good it is to have a subscription.
  • Of my 25 I sent 12 across the street and expect 7 to be 70's. Only one of 25 had significant hits. I can't send ASE's to PCGS until the spot thing is resolved. It's just not worth the risk.

Exactly the same thing that happened to me, only I cancelled my subscription over a month ago!! They are currently in route to my house. Uggh. I'll just end up keeping them anyway, but still, it's annoying.
