What an awful day....

Dunno if it made national news, but I'm sure the New England folks saw the report about the Commuter rail train that collided with a boxcar full of lumber and plastic decking.
Just my luck, I happen to be in the front car behind the engine. The conductor pulled the emergency break and ran into our car yelling, their is going to be in impact, brace yourselves! Not 3 seconds later we had a HUGE crash and people were thrown from their sets, into the seat backs etc. Everyone started screaming....
Video from the News Chopper....
My friend was two seats up, I ran to check on him, he was dazed; ended up with a mild concussion. A lot of folks had bloody noses, busted lips, broken and missing teeth (the seat backs that you rest your legs against are hard plastic, no padding) I was fortunate to to do a duck and cover maneuver; but my knees, wrist and neck are sore and swollen. A few riders had broken bones and several required backboards. There must have been 50 ambulances and a dozen police and fire departments from different towns.
Apparently a Freight train "lost" a car and it rolled down the tracks! We were in between stations and there was no way to avoid a collision. It could have been much much worse if were traveling at regular speed. Quick thinking on the engineer and conductor gave us some warning.
The collision also caused a fire that briefly ignited the shrubs and brush near the train. Smoke started to fill our car and one of the doors was jammed shut from the crash; fortunately most folks kept their heads.
It took several hours to get folks out of there and for them to get buses for all the people to get them to the other stations down the line.
I'm quite thankful that I have Wed. off so i can decompress.
Sorry for the OT post, but I'm fairly confident that if our train were traveling at normal speed that we might have had massive fatalities; and way more serious injuries.
Peace.
Time for bed.

RIP GURU
I'm glad you weren't injured badly - could've been bad - the warning sure helped.
I wish you the best and that none of the injuries linger - sometimes it takes days to know the effects of trauma.

One more thing: is a settlement in your future?
My buddy who was on the train is doing fine and resting comfortably.
Right now they are trying to determine fault/ responsibility regarding who was in possession of the train car and how it got back onto the main track from a side track that leads to a Lumber company.
As long as my wounds heal and my joints go back to normal, I'lll be happy with some free train rides (heck its the least they can do right?)
thanks again folks, its much appreciated. I need me an extra large coffee and a bagel......
