Ebay accusing me of excessive S/H

Attention Seller!
We noticed your shipping cost looks high compared to other listings in your category with similar shipping services. .

We've found that buyers are sensitive to shipping costs. Items with high shipping costs may be less likely to sell and may get less visibility in search results. Listings that violate the eBay Excessive Shipping Charges policy may be removed from the site.

Please review your shipping costs and make changes if necessary. For help, click the Research rates link in the shipping section.

How much do you guys charge to ship a single card?

I looked at your store real quick and saw mostly $3.50 and $3.00 per card.....is that what they are busting your chops about? That is on par with the going rate on Ebay in my book.

$2.00 graded/raw (not counting any insurance)

$3.00 for a card does not seem excessive

    How much are you charging?

    How does the item ship?

Is INS/DC included in the fee?

    I ship "FREE."
I include $3+ in the price of the item to cover the cost.
    I use DC/INS and Sig-Con when necessary.
    I do BIN only.

  • They are not accusing you of anything I listed an item that weighs 2 pounds the other day and charged 8.00 S/H on it and got the same message. It is a new message they are putting in all listings that are in categories where shipping averages are lower. The category I listed that in the average shipping is 4.00 so I was at double the average rate. If you charge more than 2.50 in the sportscard category you get the same message.

Ebay does not accuse, they shoot first then ask questions they would pull the listing if there was a problem then tell you why it was pulled.

I charge between $2.00 and up to $4.00 for shipping a single card. I encase the card in a top loader, cardboard sandwich, and put it in a bubble mailer. I'm good at scavenging shipping supplies so I can still come out a little ahead at $2.00. Will charge $4.00 if its a higher value card that I need to include delivery confirmation and any other special handling.

Looking at your items I'd say your shipping is a little high, but no where out of the ordinary nor deserving at slap on the wrist from the bay.

Yes, I am pretty consistent between $3 and $3.50 to ship. If the card sells for enough, I will do insurance and dc. If the card sells for $1-5, then I just send it without anything.

  • I do $3.00 and $0.25 each add'l.

    I think you're alright.

  • Frankly,

unless someone is complaining, its none of ebay's business.

if someone has outragous shipping fees, DON"T bid on their items.

I'm sure the ebay executives are fretting over the millions they are losing to honest, hard working sellers who follow their nazi rules.

I for one, live on an island and have to drive across to the mainland to post items. so if i add 50 cent to a dollar more to my post and handling are they going to send the gastapo after me ?

between paypal fees and postage rate hikes it a miracle that anyone NOT having an ebay store or power seller rating isn't flogged for not giving it away for free.

(does it sound like I love ebay ?)

Some Ebay flunky was told to send out 1 million of those emails. You got chosen.

    Good for you.
  • Its not an email. If you use the SYI to list an item list shows up there as an alert.

  • I charge $1.70 which includes a penny sleeve, top loader, and padded envelope. That's for a raw card. Insurance is $1.65 and each additional item shipping is between .25-.50 for me.

This 1 cent listing day is also a scam, what are you saving? 14 cents?

    ok.........

    Steve
    Good for you.
  • I have sold high end cards before and used USPS Priority mail with Signature Confirmation which costs about $6.70 I think. I guess they would kick me off these days for that price?

If the card is not to expensive I guess a padded envelope would do, with either delivery confirmation or signature for about 1.80 to maybe 2.60 or something like that. I don't sell much, but when I do, I make sure it is packaged and shipped the right way!

My highest sale was $625 I think. I'm talking about the shipping alone about $6.70 for USPS priority with signature confimration. The insurance is extra of course and optional.

You know, I never had any problems mailing anything with that method without insurance. I really can't remember if the buyer paid for insurance or not, but thats what the shipping price was alone.

Actually, it IS Ebay's business because many sellers use a very low starting bid/Buy It Now but then make the shipping cost what the item is really worth; Ebay calls this "fee avoidance". And a few sellers have even admitted in the product description that they do it to avoid higher fees.

Well, no one forces any of use to Ebay, so maybe we shouldn't whine. However, they seem to be getting away with pretty much anything.
