Has anyone filed an insurance claim with the USPS

I'm wondering what kind of bureaucratic nightmare they put you through if the USPS loses your registered mail package and you have to file a claim with the USPS insurance service. Has anyone had this happen? I wonder how often registered mail gets lost.

    registered doesn't get lost.
If it does get lost the only headache I can see is that they would probably ask you to prove value.

edited to add - when registered mail goes through the system, EVERYBODY who touches it signs for it and is personally responsible and liable for it.

I got a registered at work today, I was the opening clerk. The truck driver handed it to me in it's own white burlap bag. The bag had a numbered metal ring keeping it sealed closed. I had to check the number on the ring and match it to the paperwork. Then I signed for it.

Then it went directly to the safe, even thought I was the only one in the locked building.

When my boss came in, I opened the safe and gave it to him AFTER he signed for it.

2 hours later, he gave it to the clerk who signed for it and the clerk gave it to the carrier after she signed for it.

They're serious about registered mail. It takes a LONG time but it gets there. George is safe image

Relax. Registered mail never ever gets lost. It would take a 9/11 type catastrophe.

Your package is signed for every step of the way.

    Good for you.
  • a true nightmare.

we once set an antique teapot ... the post told us

first you have to showe that you sent the item
next you have to find an expert to show that the item was worth the amout insured for ...
then you had to provide documentation from that person which they would check against their informationa and then ...

you get to file a claim. and wait .. and wait ... and wait ....

I give blessings to your Babe Ruth that it arrives safe.

    cheers

Right you would have to prove value if you ever have to make an insurance claim.

If you didn't, you would have people sending in Alan Knicely cards and insuring them for thousands.

The subject package will arrive safely.

Legitimate insurance claims - when your papers/proofs are in order - are NOT a problem.

  • My recent PSA submission has been sent via registered mail and is going on 7 days. Today I checked the tracking number and for the first time it was considered a valid number. I think there are just issues with registered service these days and the promptness of delivery. Not sure if the system is overwhelmed or maybe short staffed.

  • I can deal with a 7-10 day shipping time as long as it arrives safely. I still have my separate insurance policy on my collection. It covers lost mail provided it was sent registered.

I feel bad for you guys that have to deal with the bigger post offices. I've never had more than two people in front of me on line. Some days I just phone em up, anything for me? And for an insurance claim or any other problem, they just say... sign here and here and Cya image

It's probably something important, or you wouldn't care, and it would show up early.
