My "Babe" is in the hands of the US Postal Service

I ended up sending it in as a crossover with a minimum grade of 4. I get really nervous and downright scared at times when I think about my treasure going through the mail. Of course I sent it registered mail. I paid for $4000 worth of insurance. I know that's a bit more than the card is worth but I'm guessing that if you ever have to file a claim they are going to try to pay you less than the amount that you insured it for. I'm also insured through Collector's Insurance Service. I just took some xanax. I'm having separation anxiety while my Babe is gone. Babe, please come home with a 4.5 or really make my day and come home in a new home with a 5!

If for some reason you have to file a claim you will need a receipt or some letter of appriasel <sp>

With that said registered mail is the most safest way to go.

I think you did it the right way.

    let them crack it out.

    Steve

    Good for you.

Thanks Steve. I posted a different thread about filing an insurance claim. I wonder what I would have to do to prove the card's value? Would they accept a price guide?

    Not by itself they wouldn't.

see other thread for a more detailed answer.

Good luck, it is a very nice looking card and appears to be 4-5 in the scan.

You'll be fine but please be real patient. It takes a long long time for registered mail. Don't be nervous if it takes 3 or 4 days longer than it should. If you get nervous PM me the registered number and I can try to track it for you on the USPS intranet if you can't get it online.

    It'll be ok.

Looking at the card I can't blame you for being scared. I would be scared too. But it'll be ok.

nice card, why not wait for a walk through somewhere close to you???
Running an Ebay store sure takes a lot more time than a person would think!

I mailed a card out on March 15th registered and on the 21st PSA had entered it into the system.

registered mail used to take up to 2 weeks but I have never had that long of a wait.

Actually I mailed out 22 cards and I insured them for 10K

I wasn't the least bit nervous either, afterall, they belonged to a mailman!

    Good for you.

That's hilarious! You would have to know where I live to understand the humor. Let's just say PSA won't be setting up anywhere near me. The closest PSA has ever come to me is a 6 hour drive.

It'll be just fine! image They will be safer than flying with it! Here's a funny story for ya.

One time I was flying with a hand full of my treasured base ball cards in one of the 25 count PSA boxes and the TSA (Security person) wanted to search my carry on. I said sure, as long as you are careful. So, this lady opens my PSA box and I told her again, be careful. And she was like, oh I am, all smart with me, and she started to open the box upside down, I then reached over quickly to snap it shut before my Babe, Aaron RC, etc... all poured out on the floor, and she got really mad at me this time, and I told her "Look, get your manager to search my bag, obviously your not going to be careful, there's more there than your going to make in a year" and she then got her manager, but gosh, those TSA workers really wanted to man handle my cards, and treat me poorly in the process. So yeah, if your going to fly with your baseball cards. Don't let them get out of your sight if they are going to search them!

I can't wait to see that beauty of yours in a PSA case! If it gets the 4 it'll be the nicest 4 I ever saw! I agree with you, eye apeal is everything with a Ruth. When I saw my 5 it called my name, and it was the nicest 5 I ever saw. Like you, I was in the market, and I wasn't going to go over 4k for mine.

You'll do fine! image I respect the fact that you didn't pop it out, and sent it in as is. PSA should too!

I hope PSA can open the package without destroying the card.
  • As long as he didn't use 20 yards of tape, they should be OK

It is worth trying to throw the card in the direction of PSA to get it out of the current holder.image
  • As far as the insurance claim goes the USPS will only want to pay what the card is worth raw. Been there done that dance with them before.

If you sent registered, it may take a little longer but it will get there. Registered has to be signed for everytime it moves inthe postal system.

As far as the card goes I bet it does not cross due to trimming. PSA has had issues in the past with crossing any slabbed GAI card and usually sent them back trimmed then they were resubbed raw and got the same grade GAI had them.

With those corners i do not see that card as trimmed.

I agree, just basing that comment on what I have seen PSA do in the past in regards to cards in GAI holders.

At the service level you had to use, the card should be reviewed quickly. I would keep an eye on the status online and then, if for some reason it's not graded, call customer service and have them give you details ASAP before shipping. If for some reason they question the card for alteration, I'd have them re-review.
I've used the upper service only once on a BVG 8 Joe Dimaggio (1939 PB) that I tried to cross for my cousin. It was so damn nice it could possibly have gotten a 9, but at a minimum, we wanted it in a PSA holder because he had to liquidate. It came back as altered, borders were erased(?). I had to call customer service to find out what the issue was, but if I didn't, it would have been shipped back to me without explanation.

Nice Babe by the way. Great looking card.

It will come back at your minimum grade or ungraded due to being below min grade. I have fought PSA on GAI crossovers before and never had it be smooth. Your card is fine, no issues just PSA hates crossing GAI cards over.

If that's true, then PSA is a worthless company that shouldn't be trusted with any card. It should not matter if it arrives at PSA in a holder from "Big Al's Discount Card Grading Company". They should only be examining the card and not the holder it's in.
  • Then again GAI is not really a truly trusted company..

I remember flying to Orlando in 91 or 92 and had my carry on bag full of older cards 1948-68 in 2 piece screw downs and they had inspect them and the inspector was a card collector and he wanted to look at every card and I finally had to say " Hey your gonna make me miss my flight and if I do are you gonna pay for my other ticket to get there. quit looking at my cards unless your paying cash right now" Barely made the flight. airport security can be funny at time. Ended up going from Orlando to Jackson Mississippi and did better in sales in Jackson go figure. lol Hope the Ruth comes back a 5. good luck
