It's been too many years since I've been to a 'real' card show... and well, this one should be as 'real' as it gets for me.
There's one heck of a line-up of signed, but most are charge far too much for my tastes... one of the most expensive is Emmitt Smith:
Emmitt Smith (12:30-2pm)
Flats - $199
Minis/Balls - $249
Helmets/Jerseys/Lithos/Equip. - $299
Emmitt Smith will NOT sign Florida Gators items
OUCH!!! ... don't think he'll be too busy while he's there.
The best deal IMO Saturday is Gale Sayers... a bargain at $49/auto for flats. I might attempt to get in line for his.
Gale Sayers (1-2:30pm)
Flats - $49
Balls/Minis - $59
Helments/Jerseys - $79
Inscriptions - $25
Photo-Op - $89
Anyone else going? I'll be there as much as I can stand it Saturday. It's nearly a 3 and a half hour trip for me, so one day will be it for me.
If you see a weirdo walking around the show wearing a Chris Sabo jersey... it'll be me. I'll probably be knee deep in dime boxes scouring for more Sabo's
to add to my collection.
Also on a mission to pick up as nice an '84 Donruss Mattingly that I can find for one of my best customers.
I'm hoping to find some '89 rack cases of Donruss, Fleer, and Bowman. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: I'm a glutton for punishment!
I'd like to find a few Rc's raw worthy of grading too... Rickey Henderson, Ozzie Smith, Eckersley, Fisk, Dawson, Murphy, Ripken, Murray,
Molitor/Trammell, Brett, Yount, etc. etc. etc.... but my guess is, if they're worthy of grading they'll already be slabbed!

Park at the train station 2-3 blocks north of the convention center and you'll save about $10(more spending money for baseball cards).

<< <i>I'll be there Friday looking to upgrade some commons for some of my 60's sets. Debating whether to get Steve Garveys autograph for $15, he was one of my favorite players as a kid.

What??? Steve Garvey? Cub-killer Steve Garvey? 1984-NLCS-Game-4-walk-off-homerun Steve Garvey? What's up with THAT???

Yet most NFL HOFers only charge around $20 for any item and Emmitt made millions upon millions upon millions over his career.
How many yachts can you ski behind?
: sighs :
Actually I was refering more to the early and mid 70's when I was just a youngster.

<< <i>You're right about that, Garvey killed us in 1984 along with Leon Durhams error.

Will not be a long line for him. I rather buy a hot dog and coke anyday than have his sig.

<< <i>I'll be there on Saturday and have already pre-bought a Barry Sanders flat auto ticket. I plan on having his sign a Goal Line Art card.

Greg. That is ther best way to do it. I can not stand long waiting in lines. I did the same for Sanders and Adrian Peterson.

Sorry you don't approve of one of my childhood idols but back before you were born Steve Garvey was the best N.L. 1st basemen in the 70's who finished with 10 All Star appearance and 5 World Series appearances.Kids including myself who played 1st base for their baseball teams in the mid 70's emulated him.

Agreed. Garvey was a stud. It's funny how history distorts things-- you rarely hear anything about Garvey now, and someone who didn't grow up in the '70's (or '80's, as I did) would have no idea what a superstar he really was. As a kid I would have put him right up there with Schmidt, Brett, Rose, and the rest of the luminaries of the time. He may not have been as good as those guys, but as a 10 year old he certainly 'seemed' just as good.
Edit to add: I won't be attending the show. I recognize how lame this is about to sound, but the last time I was at that show I literally couldn't find anything to buy. I think I spent $30 on a couple boxes of NFL magnets and hangtags from the 1990's, and that was it. This was after having scoured the floor for about five hours looking for something-- anything-- do dump a bunch of money on that wouldn't result in me feeling completely ripped off. I'm not one of these 'Ebay' guys who expects everything at a show to be listed at wholesale prices, and I'm usually good for a solid three-figure spending spree at our local show here (at Gibraltar) every two months or so, but I was shocked at the mark-up on everything at the Sun Times show that interested me.
Is anyone going to this show who could help me out with some set needs that I'm close on? I'd love to bury these sets.
55 topps baseball (g or better) Any condition really is fine for these as long as it's in one piece. I'd pay $4 for low numbers and $6 for the high numbers I need.
75 99 116 137 168 176 187 196 204
1955 bowman fooball (ex or better) EX or better on these. I'd like to pay $3 or less per card, or stars at a quarter of beckett or so (dont think there are any stars left here).

gladly give someone a couple extra bucks for their help.

I had a Steve Garvey mitt when I was a kid. I played 1st base and was right handed and he was one of the few back then.
