I have some experience with them. When i feed them into my vending machine at the office, they get stuck more often than the ones with strong edge lettering. But then again I have the same problem when using those darn Cheerios Sacs in the soda machine.
I found a bunch of Monroes with weak lettering. The word PLURIBUS is even completely missing parts of the letters. The lettering seems to be a bit stronger 180 degrees to the other edge.

Matte (lined) finish to the edge of the coin. Found most predominately among the Adams issue. Referred to by many as a "lasered" edge. Thought to be caused by cleaning the edge lettering dies with a wire brush that left lines in the die. Do an ebay search for "Adams Matte."

You wouldn't believe how long it took to get him to sit still for this.
Still awaiting PCGS's verdict on the Monroe weak edge letter I found on the day they came out. Arrived and booked at PCGS on Feb 20th.
