LINCOLN EXPERTS - is this a new Lincoln Variety from 1998?

Just came across this. I cosider this minor, but interesting. Please note the notch in the upper crown of the 2nd column to the left of lincoln.

sure it is a variety. looks to be a ?die chip or erosion?

would that be a die chip when the gouge that is there is extremely clean. The colum ridge that runs alongside it is perefctly struck and without any blemish.
