Did anyone here win the 1886 Vam 1A??? (Mystery solved!)

Mr. Joyce had a really nice looking PCGS MS64 that ended today on Ebay....did a forum member get lucky enough to win it? I was in the bidding, but had to graciously bow out! image Congrats to whoever won...it is a GREAT looking Vam! image

I saw it. Didn't bid it. Missed getting my HA bids in on time and missed out on a couple good grabs. Someone pulled a big premium coin with no bidding competition, and probably doesn't even realize it.

I was tracking a different flavor of 1886 1886 O VAM 1A tonight. I in the end I decided I would go with something else I found of interest.
I'll see your bunny with a pancake on his head and raise you a Siamese cat with a miniature pumpkin on his head.

You wouldn't believe how long it took to get him to sit still for this.

Same date as what you were tracking at eBay.

  • Thanks! It was a great coin. Winner isn't someone I recognize from the boards here.

How 'bout a link for those of us that haven't done any serious shopping recently?

Wow, that is a probably a little less than what a plain ol' 63 would sell for. Sometimes they fall through the cracks!

Wait a minute....that is not the right auction....this is the one I was talking about!!!!...but it is the same coin????? image...the one Paul posted ended in February....so....what's the deal? Did the coin not sell in the first auction? That is a pretty big price difference for the same coin! Help me understand what is going on. Thanks!

Didnt even look at the date. I just pulled up his closed auction and cut and pasted link to the first one I came to. That is odd.

  • Both buyer and seller received feedback for the February auction on 2/25 & 2/29, respectively. Leading one to assume the transaction was successfully completed in the first auction.imageimage
  • I never saw the auction in February....but yes, feedback was given on both sides...was it returned?
  • The confusion comes from the the way I name photos for my auctions. I have an ebay directory on my web hosting site and link to pictures there. I'll take photos and label them by date and vam: 1886_VAM1a_obv.jpg and 1886_VAM1a_rev.jpg. When I post new auctions, the old picture can be overwritten. That's the case with last month's coin. It was a SEGS 61 with a toning mark across the chin. It didn't go for much! I posted a sweet MS-64 PCGS in my next round of auctions. That photo is now linked into the old SEGS auction (where I can't say SEGS or you would know that the picture didn't match the auction). I don't overwrite photos until the deal is successfully closed.

  • PS... if I bought the PCGS coin at that price, I wouldn't have returned it ;-)

  • Thanks for the info Rob...I never saw the SEGS example, but the PCGS coin was pretty! Thank you!
