My Storage shed finds for the day, HOF auto's I got when younger (pictures of the shed added :) )

I've been cleaning out an old storage shed the last couple of weeks. I've been trying to find some signed Muhammad Ali religious pamphlets that he gave me years ago, but so far, no success in that search. I want to find them to have some custom cards made. If you've seen some of my prior posts, you've seen the Orosco trophy I found during my search, and 3 signed Salvino's I found. Here's today's find. Some HOF autographs (yes, I realize that Jose is not a HOF'er) that I received when I was younger and would write to the players. I couldn't afford many cards and things back then other than the essentials, so i would use index cards, sheets of paper, copies of illustrations out of other kids' Beckett's, newspaper photos printed in our local paper, etc. and a genuine letter of appreciation. I think as we get older, some of us get so hung up on the monetary value of stuff, that we forget the simple joy that we got when we began our hobby years ago. Here's a few pics of today's finds.

Nice early Canseco - I got him in person a few times early in his career - I'm guessing yours was signed about '86 or '87? I have an index card he signed during his September '85 callup, and you wouldn't even know it's him now, it was so neat.

Great bunch of autos on a whole though!

    Very true Mike.

I just like collecting stuff - heck if I had no money, I'ld probably collect free matchbooks or cereal cartons.

Do you remember how you picked up those autos?

I remember when car dealerships used to have players come and sign - they gave ya a black and white ad sheet and ya stood in line. Most stuff was personalized also.

Got players like Elston Howard and Craig Nettles that way.

    Thanx for sharing.

  • Mike,

How big is this storage shed of yours? You keep finding more and more sports memorbilia.

In my storage shed all I have are old tools and broken down lawnmowers.

    Justin,

It's not really big, but it's absolutely packed with all kinds of stuff, junk, furniture, trash, memoribilia, and the worst part is its all mixed up, literally piled to the ceiling. Maybe one day I'll have it organized to where it is tools and lawnmowers, but right now, they won't fit. My packratedness is catching up to me. I only clean a couple boxes/bags at a time so it's taking a while.

Here's a pic of the shed in its current state tonight. If you think it's messy now, you should have seen it before I started cleaning. That big glove thing is kinda cool, I got it signed by Alex Rodriguez, Chan Ho Park, Rafael Palmeiro, Kenny Rogers, Gabe Kappler and a few others.

    The Hun,

The fun thing about my back yard, is everyone that lives down here, is afraid of it. A lot of people in the neighborhood wonder what I have back there. I used to have a "Beware of Crocodile" sign on my fence as I had a caiman back there, but he escaped during an awful storm. Now I have a Wallaby and 65 pound tortoise patrolling back there, and still have the element of fear for everyone that saw the old sign. image

If I had 20 grown men show up, we'd have a party and finally get it clean. image

Cool critters. I always wanted to try a tortoise, but winter would be an issue in the northeast.

Nice bearded dragon. I have a 14 year old leopard gecko who is still going strong along with a couple of tree frogs.

In my younger days I used to keep quite a few herps but life and my family get in the way these days of expanding my critter collection.
