Coins for sale at Mount Vernon

I was in DC visiting the past week and happened upon a small cache of coins for sale in the Lady Washington Shop on the premises (adjacent to the old slaves' quarters). My pulse raced when I saw a couple Mexican 4 reales pieces and some colonial copper. There also was quite a bit of eighteenth century British coinage and early Federal copper, as well.
As I was calculating how much I was going to make from flipping these treasures, my wife wandered over to ask me whether we should get the Mount Vernon edition Dove Bar in dark chocolate or milk chocolate. (Being somewhat health-conscious and knowing the kids would not eat as much of the dark chocolate, I chose the dark
) I quickly remembered that I suck at buying coins under these circumstances, I would probably get counterfeits or abused coins, and I passed. In retrospect, I do regret not making a token purchase of a coin with the Mount Vernon provenance. I would bet that few serious collectors have a coin from Washington's home.
As an aside, the new museum at Mount Vernon is nothing short of terrific. It is a must-see exhibit for anyone interested in Washington and US History. Here's a link to the website for those seeking more information.

I lived about a mile from Mount Vernon. I worked in the shop pt years ago to tell tour buses and show the people where to park on busy days, that was many years ago. I did get to go underground and see some neat stuff the general public never saw. It is a must trip for people. Be very careful what you buy, the coins are check by a local govt coin Nusmi and they are suppose to be aucthentic but who knows. I live in Maryland across the river going south. I would never live in Va again, too many Tacos and silly laws, I miss my concealed weapons permit though.

<< <i>Great. I plan to be in DC in May for a tax conference. I suppose a side trip might be in order. >>
Best to visit Julian at his shop, too. He gets testy when forum members visit DC and do not pop in.
