World Silver Bullion Set

Here's the list I am working off of at the moment for my Silver Bullion of the World Collection.
They must be a multi year bullion series avaliable in BU that were primarily designed as a bullion coin. Question is did I miss any?

One Ounce
US Silver Eagle
British Brittania
Canadian Maple Leaf
Austrialian Kangaroo
Austrialian Kookaburra
Austrialian Koala
Mexican Libertad
Austrian Philharmonic
Chinese Pandas

Misc.
Canandian Wolves (I know they are one year only, but were meant to be a series, not a pail of fail)

My goal right now is to complete BU slowly over the next few years and pick up proofs and privy marked pieces as they come along.

    Australian Lunars

Are you working on just silver or all the precious metals? Because I don't remember seeing any silver koalas or philharmonics...

If you are doing gold and platinum, the South African Kruggerrand series comes to mind.

  • Koalas in silver are newish 2007 and 2008
Yeah for now just silver. I am a slave for silver image with fractionals, proofs, and privy marks its turning out to be a rather large project.. which is exactally what I want, something I can pick up a piece or two here and there and work on for years.
edit add: and not least of all the Monster Kilo Pieces image

you could try to do maple leaf privy coins and you'd need 100 lifetimes to pick them all up.
there are privy marks all over the place in european silver... get your typeset of the majors, then pickup the minors, then pick your favorite design and hit the privys, then again, that's all personal choice image

  • I would suggest the Zambia elephants.

Unfortunately, the Gibraltar angels, Isle of Man Cats and Somalia Monkeys are in proof. I think that Gibraltar also had a set of dogs.
Also, Guernsey issues a one ounce silver coin called a eight doubles (in stock at http://www.guernseymint.co.uk/fine-silver-coin.htm), but I have never seen one myself and don't know if it was issued in 2001.

There are some other Chinese coins in addition to the pandas, such as the flowers, and lunars. However, I did not include them in my collection for 2001 world bullion coins, since they are not stamped "1 ounce silver", but are stated to contain that amount.

My collection of 2001 world silver bullion (1 ounce, stated as such, multi-year (non-commenorative))

    USA
    BU Silver Eagle
    Proof Silver Eagle
    Canada
    BU Maple
    Lunar Privy Maple
    Colored Maple
    Hologram Maple
    United Kingdom
    BU Britannia
    Proof Britannia
    Australia
    BU Kookaburra
    Proof Kookaburra
    BU Kangaroo
    Proof Kangaroo
    BU Lunar Snake
    Proof Lunar Snake
    Guilded Lunar Snake
    Isle of Man
    Proof Somali Cat
    Gibraltar
    Proof Cherub
    Mexico
    BU Libertad
    Proof Libertad
    Somalia
    Proof Monkey
    Zambia
    Matte Elephant
    Proof Elephant
    China
    BU Panda
    BU Panda D-mintmark

    Good luck!
  • I am begining to think what I need to do is divide them in classes..
    1. Major Mutli-Year Bullion issued by State Owned Mint
Silver Eagles, Britannias, Kangaroos (or are they Perth Mint), Libertads, Philharmonics, Pandas
    2. Major Multi-Year Bullion issued by Private Mints under State Contract
    Kookaburra, ect
    3. Privy marked, selectively plated and colored Bullion issues
    Maple Leaf, ect
    4. Minor Issues made primilary for collectors
    Monkeys, Elaphants, Kiwis
    5. Misc Issues (failed issues or issues that don't fit anywhere else)
    Silver Wolves

Honestly this is becoming more and more interesting as I research it.. At first I was thinking of these issues as being somewhat akin to modern trade dollars.. but I am finding that this is a very complex rapidly growing area.. one that even has some issues that don't fit anywhere.. like 1 one ounce fine commeratives, stated or not.

I have been collecting these for years now in the 1/2 oz & 1 oz sizes.....

Alot of fun, but becoming more expensive with the rising price of silver.....

Canada is very annoying as well with all there material they put out.....

  • I orginally planned to do this about 1996, but it got put on hold.. in hindsight I wish it hadn't. But I guess its better late then never.

  • I bought most of mine from eBay, though the proof libertad came from a different website that specializes in libertads and onzas (another coin to add to the list, depending on what dates are of interest)

    Other places:
    panda america
    panda usa
    silver-eagle-coins

Google searching will help uncover many sellers, some international. Really it comes down to how much above spot one is willing to spend for a given coin. Many of these don't trade near spot, such as the britannias, especially if they are several years old.
