What do you guys think of toned slabbed coins??

Just wondering what everyone thinks of collecting toned slabbed coins. I've noticed several PCGS slabbed toned coins on Ebay going for over book price. Is this because of the toning?? Toning does not add value to a coin does it?? Is toning harmful to a coin??
Blah Blah Blah!!!

Read my website and you might learn some things about toning.

  • Buy the coin not the slab... Some people are tone nuts and thus a 65 with toning means that some will pay more and others will pay less.... beauty is in the eye of the "holder." image

I like toners and I will pay a premium for the right looking one.

  • Attractive toning can add serious value to a coin. They are popular and toned coin collectors will pay way
over retail for nice examples. I don't know if it's harmful.

Toned coins are sure harmful to my wallet...image

Many collectors are willing to pay a premium for toners, but there are still about as many who prefer untoned coins. Collect what you like!
  • Toning, when attractive, can help increase the value and market grade of a coin.
  • Save your money don't buy them....please stick with the white widgets......rainbow colors are for clowns and skittles.....

Ok so hopefully you will stay away from them and leave them to us toned coin weenies image

Depends on the toning. If it looks natural and beautiful I am all for it.

I think the most I've ever paid for a toned coin in relation to greysheet money, was about twenty five times sheet. I turned down fifty times sheet for the same coin.

I have some toned coins, and I like the Lafayette shown above as an example. However all the neon AT (in my opinion) Morgans that people pay silly prices for you can have. Is a nicely toned coin worth 5-50 times the price sheet, that's up to you, I won't pay it though.

I started collecting back in the late 60's and early 70's when white coins were all the rage, and almost everything worth buying wound up dipped so it would get the maximum price. Now you have toned coins fetching seemingly stratospheric prices, and the supply seems never ending. I know people will say it's a very small % of the pop, but there are 10 or 12 major dealer websites you can go to tonight and find all you can afford, at well over retail price of course.

PCGS approval of toning adds a lot to the value of a toned coin.

There are many coin doctors out there so the PCGS slab is comforting to many.

Check out PCGS 08949183. It has a similar look to PCGS 21601056.
