If I were to have another youtube video contest would anybody be interestead in this Football card??

Hey guys and gals,

I know my first contest isen't even over yet and already i'm trying to do another image

I was wondering if I were to have another video contest would you not mind getting this card as a prize?

image

The last I checked on the beckett online guide it was listed at 50 bucks, so I think thats still the price, I must have looked it up a few months back.

Its a 1972 Kedkard I belive its called, and it was found on shoeboxes back in the day, and you had to cut it out. I think it comes from a 10 card set or something like that.

Please let me know if you would play for this card. No promises yet, because first of all I gotta find it, but it shouldn't be far, lol. I'm pretty sure I know were it is, and I had the photo saved to my computer, so you can just picture me trying to find something to give away image

Alright, thanks for playing in my first contest and hope to get that one rapped up soon, and hope you join with for a second contest! image

Yeah, that contest was pretty cool, I have to admit that me and my 10 year old son were watching on youtube and my wife walked by and wanted to know what the heck we were doing watching a man's hand for minutes on end.

That is one ugly card, so I will pass. I am afraid the thing may haunt me.

Admit it Gio, the card came from your sister's Keds box.

Technically, the Keds box "cards" are not cards in the usual sense. I have only seen one other in 40 years of collecting- a Johnny Bench. I have never seen a complete box but I bet it's worth some big $$$$$. Oh yea- for you younguns Keds were the "cool" shoes along with Chuck Taylors back in the day before Nike.

Yup, a pretty obscure release and the complete panels are tough to find. Despite the relative rarity, however, prices are kept down due to a weak checklist. I don't remember Bench being in there, but I would have to look it up to be sure.

I figured more like once a week, but I guess once a month sounds good too, so I don't run out of cards! image

  • I picked up a four card panel on eBay about a month ago. Had Reed, Smith, Smith and Bench. Sent them to PSA and should have the results in a few weeks. Hopefully they come back on the higher side.

    Take care,
    Kyle

    Nice!

    Congrats on that purchase image

If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay?

Did you cut all 4 cards and sent them to grade, or do they grade the entire panel, how does that work?

    Good luck on the grades!

  • I picked up the panel for $50... I thought it was a pretty good deal. 2 or less of each graded by PSA, none by BGS or SGC.

I cut them myself, and they should grade 8s or higher. We shall see!

    WOW!

Thats very cool man, good luck with that, I hope you get some 9's or 10's too image

Very cool price too, I would think about 200 bucks for that at least, but hey, people want things free on ebay these days, so better for us collectors I guess. Good luck with your grades! image

I found this very nice rare version of these cards, its the big version which I don't know much about, but here it is: Bench BIG Version

This would be a cool card for the guy who wanted to collect Bench, this is definetly a great start!

Wow... there is a Bench in that set. I was a fool to doubt Mike! The latest big Beckett lists two panels at $75.00 high book each and does not list singles for some reason. This is one of those items that could do well under, or over, that depending on who runs across it... the oddball stuff is always a roll of the dice.

Why don't people take oddball stuff seriously? I think that Bench card would be 100 times rarer than any of his regular same old same old cards. Why wouldn't a Bench collector put that 72 KedKard in their collection right away???

What is it with people and oddball stuff? Don't you think its worth more than the stuff that pops up any day on ebay, when this rare stuff only pops up once in a blue moon?

    Giovanni
  • Your contests are the best, Gio, so definitely count me in. image

Did you notice that not only was there a Bubba Smith in the set, they actually had two poses of him:

Eh', there are a lot of things in this (or any) hobby that don't make sense. Why is a set price less than the individual card prices? Why is the multiplier on a rookie card parallel less than a veteran star card numbered to the same amount made? Why isn't a rookie card numbered to 100 worth 10 times that of a rookie numbered to 1000? At the end of the day, it is about supply and demand, where the demand is based a good deal on perception. I think with the oddball stuff part of the demand equation is that a lot of collectors may not even know about some of these oddball releases... especially with something as obscure as these KedKards.

I have noticed that for oddball items, putting them in the eBay store with an ambitious BIN and waiting for the "right buyer" to come along generally works fairly well compared to a comparatively short lived auction with a low minimum bid. With the auction format it takes at least two eager collectors, whereas with the fixed price store it only takes one.

    Snorto~

WOW man, congrats on that 10!!!!!!!!!

You did great with the 9 too, and I would say the 7, because these are hard to come by in any condition, let alone a 10, 9 and 7. The 5 was ok, could have been worst. Very nice!

    Thanks for sharing.
