I need book recommendations for W.L. Half series

I have decided to learn a new series, and have chosen the W.L. Halfs due to their large size, ready availability in most all grades, and just because I like the way they look. I am interested in learning which are the 1-2 specialist books I should look into acquiring for this series. I will be interested in varieties so any specialist reference books on that would be appreciated. I will be collecting mostly circulated coins, so I am not as concerned with telling a MS63 from a MS64, but I want to be able to tell a VF20 from a VF25. Thanks for any help or suggestions to get me started.

Bruce Fox's book is still the standard reference, though it's now become a bit dated. I understand it is also out of print now, but I think you can get them on EBay, etc. I had personally talked to Bruce about doing another edition some years ago, and it was started, but then he had heart problems and it never came to fruition. You are welcome to borrow mine if you want to peruse a copy (since you live in the 'hood).

Swiatek's book is pretty much worthless, and some of the identical info was used Fox's book. Save your money.

I have asked David Lange twice about doing a book on walkers, but he said though interested, he was burned out, at least for the time being.

There is a book on the die varieties available as well, but I don't own a copy.

Hi Greg, The Complete Guide to Walking Liberty Half Dollars by Bruce Fox is a super book for Walkers. It is out of print but sometimes comes up on EBAY where I bought mine. Also, Treasure Hunting Walking Liberty Half Dollars by Kevin Flynn is another. This one is available from many places and covers RPM, doubled dies and other varieties.

    Hope this helps..........Rick

To add, I agree with walkerguys take on the Swiatek book.........

Thanks fellas. That's exactly what I needed. I'll put the Fox & Flynn on my radar screen and see if I can't get them picked up. Thanks again for the leads.

There was a copy of Bruce Fox's book on Amazon yesterday for $99 not sure if you grabbed it as this book is selling upwards of $300. Anthony Swiatek's book will get you by at less then $15... but in the end your gonna want Bruce's book as out dated of not it's THE book to own.

There's also a paper bound 1989 Walking liberty half dollars: An in-depth study by Dean F Howe on the market which crosses Ebay at times.
